There are so many restaurants in Patong Beach; you would think that finding great Thai food would be easy. But if you know Thailand, you soon will realise that too many of them serve a toned-down version of Thai cuisine or something very far from local food. We understand and respect that many travellers are new to Thai food and might lack the experience to compare.
We have lived in Thailand for 28 years, and we are very passionate about Thai food, so we might sound a little harsh. We go out there as often as possible, trying new places and restaurants people talk about on social media. So here is our list of the Best Thai and international restaurants to try in Patong. 1. L’Arome by the Sea
Phuket 101 pick
L’Arôme by the Sea is a restaurant with an amazing sea view, serving excellent modern French cuisine in Kalim Beach. Chef Yannick Hollenstein proposes a 5 or 7-course menu with beautifully presented dishes and surprising compositions in a perfectly balanced menu. L’Arôme by the Sea has been listed in the Michelin 2023. In addition, guests can enjoy cocktails and wines before dinner on the beautiful rooftop above the restaurant.

2. Tambu
Tambu is a delicious Indian Restaurant located on the rooftop of Avista Hideaway Phuket Patong, perched on a hill 2 km south of Patong Beach. The restaurant is set in an immense and luxurious tent with a high ceiling and a chandelier, inspired by the tented Palaces in the era of Mughal Emperors’ in India. The setting creates a unique exotic atmosphere, overlooking the surrounding green hills and the Andaman Sea beyond. Tambu is a great place to enjoy sunset drinks and a romantic dinner.

3. Acqua
Acqua is a fantastic Italian restaurant run for just ten years by talented and friendly Chef Alessandro Frau. This exclusive dining has received many awards and accolades, including a ‘Plate’ award but the Phuket Michelin Guide. On the way to Kamala, the beautifully decorated restaurant is almost hidden in Kalim Beach, just outside Patong Beach.

5. Meg Khram
Meg Khram, a high-end Thai restaurant situated at the northern edge of Patong Beach, occupies the former site of Baan Rim Pa restaurant, right beneath Novotel Phuket Resort. With its appealing aesthetics and ample lighting, the restaurant features a well-appointed bar where a DJ and saxophone player contribute to the ambience without being overpowering, allowing patrons to appreciate the mesmerizing sunset over the Andaman Sea.

6. Kaab Gluay Thai Restaurant
Kaab Kluay is an old-time favourite, run by a local who’s been serving excellent Thai food at the right price for decades. Expats living in Patong know the place very well and often take their guests or customers there for a real Thai dinner. The restaurant is on the outskirt of town, just before the Thai temple you saw when entering Patong, so you probably need a short tuk-tuk ride to get there. The restaurant has an indoor and an outdoor area and is quite big so you won’t need a reservation. Note that it’s by a busy road, so it’s not exactly a romantic dinner. Read more

7. Paan Yaah Seafood
Paan Yaah is a restaurant with a unique seaside location just outside Patong, past Kalim Beach. It’s a little more upmarket without being expensive (well, everyone has a different perception of what expensive means), and it’s a place for a romantic Thai dinner. The restaurant looks like an old house with dim lighting and candles on the table. It’s now quite popular, so you should book as early as possible if you wish to get a table by the water. Read more

8. No. 9 Restaurant
Number 9 is a modest Thai restaurant much talked about on social media. The design is not impressive, and the location by the street makes it somewhat anonymous. The menu is long, offering both Thai and European cuisine. We tried it a couple of times, and we liked the Thai food! It’s not toned down unless you ask, and it is tasty as Thai food should be. 10. Sizzle Rooftop Restaurant
Sizzle Rooftop restaurant is a romantic dining place at the top of the new Avista Hideaway south of Patong Beach. To set the tone, you need to know that this hotel is part of the MGallery by Sofitel, an award-winning luxury resort. The resort sits on a hill, and from this unique vantage point, you can admire two bays: Freedom Beach and Paradise Beach. You are not close to the beach, but you can see far above the forest to the sea.

Hern Coffee and Bistro is a new, cool, and well-designed Thai restaurant on the beachfront of Patong. The location in front of the well-known Baan Lamai hotel is very convenient, making it a great place to enjoy dinner with a good atmosphere within walking distance from Bangla Walking Street. 14. Kalim Rim Lay
Kalim Rim Lay is a tiny local restaurant hidden by the water past Kalim Beach. You will need a short ride to get there, but it’s not far. The food is 100% local and can be quite spicy (unless you ask for ‘mai pet’, which means’ not spicy’). The location is great, and sitting in little bamboo huts is a unique experience that was very common 20 years ago around Phuket. Read more

17. No.6 in Patong
There are two restaurants called No.6, and they are sisters. The original one, simply called No6, is in the very centre of Patong. The second one is named ‘Number 6 up the hill’ and is, as the names imply, on the south hill of Patong. The original one is a bit of a social phenomenon and a fun proof of the belief that ‘if there is a queue, it must be delicious’. So we queued (when the queue wasn’t too long) and had a try. The food is not bad, but the atmosphere and service are inexistent. You will sit shoulder to shoulder with your neighbour, and the staff have no time to be nice to you. So better take advantage of their free shuttle and get a fun ride up the hill. You will get a better view and better sitting. Read more

18. No.6 on the Hill
Number 6 Restaurant ‘Up The Hill’ is one of the most popular places in Patong Beach, we all know that. But did you know that there are two Numbers 6? The original and best-known No.6 Restaurant is on Rat-U-Thit Road, not far from Bangla Road, and it’s surprisingly crowded if you consider that the food is quite average. 19. Sea Salt Lounge
Sea Salt Lounge and Grill is a beautiful restaurant and a seaside bar built on a prime seafront location in Patong Beach, part of the well-known Diamond Cliff Resort. If you are a little familiar with Patong, Sea Salt is next to the now-defunct Da Maurizio, Joe’s Downstairs and Baan Rim Pa set of restaurants on the way to Kalim Beach and Kamala Beach.

Ta Khai restaurant at Rosewood hotel Phuket serves superb sustainable Thai cuisine in a rustic village-style atmosphere. The restaurant is set in a garden by the sea, on the beautiful Tri Trang Beach. As the price is quite high, it’s not your everyday dinner so keep it for a special occasion. Little Tiger is a small, hidden restaurant with a superb view, perched on the hillside of Merlin Beach near Patong Beach. Even if you find this remote beach, you might have difficulty spotting Little Tiger, which is why the place is still quiet and peaceful.
