Romantic sunset dinner in Patong Beach
Meg Khram The Sunshine Restaurant in an upmarket Thai restaurant located at the north end of Patong Beach, where the original Baan Rim Pa restaurant used to be, just at the feet of Novotel Phuket Resort. The restaurant is bright and well designed, with a bar, a DJ and saxo player adding just enough atmosphere not to be disturbing while admiring the sun slowly going down on the Andaman Sea. Just in case you wonder. Meg Khram means Indigo Cloud in Thai.
The team at Mek Khram is very accommodating despite being very busy attending the many customers. Obviously, the tables on the edge of the terrace are the most popular so you should really book as soon as possible to get one, especially if you want to impress your loved one. On the good side, even though we arrived without booking, we got a table a little bit behind and view was still wonderful.
The food
The Thai food is good and beautifully presented, but of course with such a unique location, the prices are on the high side, yet still reasonable. We had a Miang Kham Salad (betel leaves with roasted coconut flakes, dice lime, dry shrimps, shallots, peanuts and that very special spiced sweet syrup that makes it so unique (260 baht). Pomelo salad with prawns (340 baht) and Glass Noodle Salad with deep fried soft shell crab (380 baht). Just to give you an idea, as mains, the Massaman Curry starts at 320 baht, the green curry at 290 baht and our favourite the Tom Yam Poh Taek (a variation on the classic Tom Yam with a unique aroma) at 380 baht.
The menu is long and creative, with plenty of appetizing photos to help you make your choice, especially when the names don’t mean much to you, your eyes get attracted by the images. The desserts are also worth noticing, with real Thai sweets, from the classic Mango Sticky Rice (220 baht), to the delicious Bua Loy (250 baht) and Pandan Sago dumplings with Pandan Jelly in Coconut Milk (160 baht)
