Best Spa Resorts in Phuket
74,959 viewsBy Willy Thuan · Living in Phuket since 1994
Phuket is one of the best places in Asia for a spa holiday. Resort spas on Bang Tao, Mai Khao, Nai Yang, Cape Yamu, Cape Panwa and Kata cover every price range and treatment style, from traditional Thai massage and herbal compress to Hammam, Watsu, Reiki and full wellness programmes. Some are destination wellness retreats built around medical consultations and multi-day packages. Others are day spas you can drop into for 60 minutes without being a hotel guest. A beachside Thai massage in a little shop is also everywhere if you just want something quick and cheap.
The resort spas listed below are the most established on the island. Prices vary widely, from around 600 baht for a Thai massage at a mid-range independent spa to 18,000 baht for a full-day wellness programme at a luxury resort. The quality at the top end of Phuket compares with anywhere in Asia, and most resort spas welcome outside guests, not only hotel residents. Booking in advance is essential for the popular ones, especially during high season.
How to Choose the Right Spa in Phuket
With so many options, picking the right spa comes down to what you want out of the experience and how much you want to spend.
Where are you staying. If you are in Bang Tao or Cherng Talay, Banyan Tree or Trisara are close. Kata or Karon puts you near Kata Rocks, Pearl Spa and Oasis Sky Breeze. Patong is closest to Rosewood Asaya. Mai Khao and Nai Yang are where JW Marriott, Renaissance, Phuket Marriott and The Slate are based. Cape Panwa and Cape Yamu need a longer drive but are worth it for the quiet setting.
How much do you want to spend. Luxury resort spas (Banyan Tree, Trisara, COMO Shambhala, Asaya, Amatara, Coqoon, Infinite Luxury) run from around 4,000 baht for an hour to 18,000 baht for a full-day programme. Mid-range resort spas (JW Marriott, Renaissance, Quan, Pearl, Sindh) sit between 2,500 and 5,000 baht. Independent day spas like Oasis, Let’s Relax and So Thai start from around 600 baht for a 60-minute Thai massage.
What kind of treatment do you want. For a traditional Thai experience, most resort spas and all independents do it well. For something different, Amatara has Thai Hammam and alternative therapies like Reiki and Chakra Balancing. Rosewood Asaya has Watsu water therapy. Coqoon at The Slate is about design and atmosphere. Kata Rocks has high-tech chromotherapy treatments. Trisara and Amatara are the two proper wellness resorts if you want multi-day programmes.
Couples or solo. Most resort spas have couples’ rooms. So Thai and Oasis run specific couples’ packages. Some of the wellness resorts like Amatara and Trisara build programmes for couples doing a retreat together.
Day pass or full stay. You do not need to be a hotel guest to use most resort spas. Booking a treatment usually includes access to the steam room, sauna and relaxation areas. Some resorts like Kata Rocks sell proper day passes that include pool and gym access too.
Book ahead. The top resort spas fill up days in advance during high season. Banyan Tree in particular is often fully booked. If you want the popular treatments or the sea-view rooms, reserve as soon as your dates are confirmed.
Resort Spas in Phuket

Banyan Tree Spa is one of the longest-established spas in Phuket and has won many awards. Banyan Tree is not just a spa; it is an experience on its own that will relieve all the stress you accumulated during your hard-working year. It could be a good idea to book a treatment for the first days of your holiday. The therapists are extremely skilled and experienced, and you can request light, moderate or deep pressure. All treatments come with a complimentary 30-minute relaxation time and refreshments.
Banyan Tree Spa might not be for beginners. Prices are very high, but those with experience in spa treatments already know why those rates are justified. The spa is often fully booked, so call in advance to avoid disappointment. For the same reason, do not think of Banyan Tree Spa as a rainy day option.

| Location: Boat Lagoon Marina |
Let’s Relax is not close to any beach, but it is popular with sailors, boat-trippers and locals since it is at
Boat Lagoon Marina just north of Phuket Town on the east coast. The spa is part of the Let’s Relax brand with locations throughout Thailand. Where it may lack unique character, it makes up for consistency and quality with treatments by professional therapists using natural ingredients.
You will find all the treatments here that are typical for a Thai day spa, including traditional Thai massage, body scrubs and oil massages. Although it is near Phuket’s busiest road, the spa’s leafy surrounds and cool nautical theme make it a calming retreat. Prices here are very reasonable.

Insider Tips
A few things I have picked up after years of booking spas for visiting family and sending friends to them.
Book 48 hours in advance for the top resort spas. Banyan Tree, Trisara Jara and Como Shambhala fill up during high season. Same-day bookings are often impossible. For independent spas like Oasis or Let’s Relax, same-day is usually fine.
Go for the 90-minute treatment, not the 60. The extra 30 minutes makes a big difference. The first 10 to 15 minutes are always warm-up, so a 60-minute treatment feels like it ends just as you relax. A 90-minute treatment is where the real benefit happens.
Drink water before and after. Massage moves lymph and releases tension. If you are dehydrated you will feel headachy the next day. Most good spas will offer water or herbal tea afterwards, but drink your own before you arrive.
Ask for pressure preference upfront. Thai therapists tend to go strong unless you say otherwise. Light, medium or strong are the three standard levels. If you are not sure, ask for medium to start. You can always ask for more pressure later.
Afternoon slots are quieter. Morning is the popular time because guests wake up and book. Early afternoon (1 pm to 3 pm) is usually quieter and you get more attention. Late afternoon from 4 pm onwards fills up again because people come in after the beach.
Tipping is welcome but not expected. 100 to 200 baht in cash to the therapist at the end is appreciated. Some luxury spas include a service charge, so ask before tipping twice.
If you are combining with the beach, do the spa after. Beach first, shower at your hotel, then spa. Going to the spa first and then the beach ruins the effect.
Walk-ins work at most independent spas. Oasis, Let’s Relax and So Thai usually have availability for 60-minute Thai massages without a booking. Resort spas almost always need advance booking.
The Phuket Spa Scene Through the Years
Spa in Phuket did not really exist as a concept when I arrived in 1994. Massage was available on the beach for very small money, and there were a few massage shops in Patong. But the idea of a proper destination spa was new to the island.
Banyan Tree Phuket opened in 1995 and changed everything. Its signature pool-villa concept and the Banyan Tree Spa brand essentially invented the resort spa model in Thailand. Every luxury resort that came after borrowed from it in some way.
The spa was one of the first in Asia to be recognised internationally, and it set a very high bar.
The late 1990s and 2000s brought the boom. Amanpuri, which opened in 1988 and was the first real luxury resort on the island, added a proper spa. JW Marriott Mai Khao came along in 2001 with its own wellness offering. Oasis Spa arrived in Phuket around 2003 and became the first independent premium day spa on the island.
The 2004 tsunami hit many of the coastal spas hard. Spas at resorts on Kamala, Patong and Khao Lak were destroyed or badly damaged. Most rebuilt within a year or two, and the wellness scene came back stronger.
The event reshaped where new spas were built. More on headlands and elevated locations, less directly on sand.
The 2010s brought the shift toward medical and wellness tourism. Amatara (then Regent Phuket) rebranded as a “welleisure” resort in 2015, one of the first proper medical wellness resorts in Thailand. Trisara opened its Jara Wellness Spa with multi-day consultation-based programmes. Rosewood Asaya launched in 2017 with Watsu, Reiki and similar alternative therapies front and centre.
Covid emptied the island from 2020 to 2022 and closed some weaker operators permanently. But it also drove demand for longer-stay wellness retreats when travel returned. Amatara, Trisara and several newer entries like Sinae and Paresa benefited from it.
The Phuket spa scene in 2026 is mature and diverse. Every big beach has at least two serious resort spas, every price point is covered, and the top-end wellness resorts compete with anywhere in Asia on programme depth.
The big shift now is toward multi-day residential programmes rather than one-off treatments, and that is where Trisara and Amatara have a head start.
