Map of Patong Beach
This map of Patong Beach shows the main landmarks, restaurants, shopping areas and nightlife spots across the busiest beach town in Phuket. Patong is large and spread out compared to other beach areas on the island. The beach stretches for about 3 kilometres, and the town behind it goes several blocks deep, filled with hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment. Knowing which part of Patong suits you makes a real difference, especially when booking a hotel. The map below covers the main areas from south to north.
South Patong
The southern end of Patong is the quieter side of the beach, closest to the road coming from Karon. The sand here tends to be less crowded than the centre, and the atmosphere is more relaxed. Several mid-range and family-friendly hotels sit in this area. Amari Phuket and a few other well-known resorts are along this stretch. The southern end is a good base if you want easy access to Patong without being in the middle of the noise.
Patong Centre and Bangla Road
The centre of Patong is where everything happens. Bangla Road is the main nightlife strip and runs from the beachfront road straight into the heart of town. It is pedestrianised after dark and lined with bars, clubs, restaurants and street performers. Even if nightlife is not your thing, Bangla Road is worth walking through once just to see the spectacle. The streets surrounding Bangla are packed with restaurants, massage shops, tailors, souvenir stalls and everything else aimed at visitors. Jungceylon Shopping Mall is a short walk from Bangla and is the largest mall in the area.
Patong Beachfront
The beachfront road runs the full length of the beach with a promenade along the sand. During high season, sun loungers and umbrella vendors line the beach from end to end. Restaurants and bars face the sea along the northern half, and street food vendors set up along the promenade in the evenings. The beachfront is flat and easy to walk. Several of the larger hotels, including some of the best-known names in Patong, sit directly on or just behind this road.
North Patong
The northern end of Patong feels different from the centre. It is calmer, more residential, and the beach here is often less crowded. The road climbs towards the hillside, and several hotels in this area have elevated positions with views over the bay. This end is further from Bangla Road, so it suits travellers who want the Patong beach without the Patong noise. The road continues north over the hill towards Kamala Beach.
The Hillside (East Patong)
Behind the main town, the streets climb steeply into the hills east of Patong. This is where you will find many of the pool villa developments and boutique hotels with panoramic views over Patong Bay. The trade-off is access. Walking to the beach from the hillside is not practical, so you will need a scooter, car or taxi. For many visitors, the views and the quiet more than make up for the extra distance.
Getting Around Patong
Walking along the beachfront from south to north takes about 30 to 40 minutes. The central area around Bangla Road and Jungceylon is walkable, but Patong extends further than most people expect, and the side streets can be steep. Tuk-tuks are everywhere and useful for short trips. Scooter rental is common for reaching the hillside hotels or neighbouring beaches. Karon is about 10 minutes south, and Kamala is roughly 15 minutes north.
