Kids-Friendly Activities in Phuket
Phuket has more kid-friendly activities than any other island in Thailand. Two major water parks, indoor playgrounds inside shopping malls, ziplines through jungle canopy, go-kart tracks, aquariums, mini golf courses, surf simulators, rock climbing walls, and ethical elephant encounters. That is before you even get to the beaches, the islands, and the boat trips.
Most family resorts now have their own kids’ clubs with supervised activities, pools with slides, and babysitting services. If your hotel does not have one, Oto Play Park at Central Phuket is one of the best standalone play centres on the island, air-conditioned and big enough to keep children busy for hours. Aquaria is in the same mall, so parents can easily combine both in one visit.
The beaches of Phuket are safe and shallow in the right spots. Kata Beach is the most popular with families. Bang Tao and Kamala are calmer alternatives. During high season (November to April), the sea is flat and warm. In low season, hotel pools become more important, and indoor activities like Aquaria, ice skating, rock climbing and the Upside Down House are good backup options for rainy afternoons.
Insider Tips
The two activities I recommend most for families visiting for the first time are Andamanda Phuket and a private boat trip to Phang Nga Bay. Andamanda is well run, big enough to fill a full day, and the Thai mythology theme makes it feel different from any water park I have been to elsewhere. Phang Nga by private boat is something children remember for years.
Here are some kid-friendly suggestions for an unforgettable time with the family. You can book most of these activities with your hotel; you only have to ask the reception. They are also widely available at street tour counters.

K Park

Location: Phuket Town
K Park is a large outdoor complex on Krabi Road in Phuket Town, right next to the Blue Elephant Restaurant. It brings together a handful of small activity centres, cafes, garden spaces and a few educational exhibits in a calm, tree-filled setting. It is less about rides or thrills and more about giving kids space to move around, make things, and explore at their own pace. Families with younger children tend to like it most. The location makes it easy to combine with a visit to Old Phuket Town or a meal nearby.

Kids Playorama

Location: Kata Beach
Kids Playorama is an indoor play space inside the Novotel Phuket Kata Avista Resort in Kata Beach. It has slides, trampolines, net bridges, ball pits and a small obstacle course. It is the kind of place you go when it is too hot outside or when younger kids need to burn off energy for an hour. Non-guests can pay an entry fee to use it. It is not big enough for a full day, but as part of a Kata Beach afternoon, it works well, especially for children under 10.

You can also play with the kids in a vast indoor area with many toys, an outdoor playground, or a safe climbing area for the bigger kids. Read more

Theme Parks
Carnival Magic
Location: Kamala Beach
Carnival Magic is a nighttime cultural theme park in Kamala, next door to Phuket FantaSea. The main draw is a large indoor parade called the River Carnival, which runs through an elaborate set piece with boats, lights and performers in Thai costume. After the show, the Kingdom of Lights section opens — a walk-through area with over 40 million LEDs built into archways, sculptures and displays that younger children tend to love. There is also a fun fair zone with games and rides aimed at kids.
It opens on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings only, so check the schedule before you plan around it. It is easy to reach from Patong, Kamala and Bang Tao. Buffet options are available on site. What surprised us was how completely it is designed around children. The number of carnival games spread across the park is staggering, all built around the same cute characters from the parade. Kids walk around with wide eyes and big smiles the entire evening. Parents are as entertained as the children, which is rare. It is not cheap, but for a family evening in Phuket that is not just dinner and the beach, there is nothing quite like it.
Location: Kamala Beach
Open: Carnival Magic is open every Monday, Wednesday & Saturday.
Water Activities With Kids
Andamanda Phuket

Location: Near Phuket Town
Andamanda Phuket is huge, you can’t miss it on the way to Phuket Town. We’ve been a few times now, and it’s still our go-to when the heat gets brutal. There are over 25 rides across five themed zones, all wrapped in colourful Thai mythology. The wave pool is massive, the lazy river goes on forever, and the slides in Naga Jungle are wild (Dragon’s Drop is a favourite). We usually grab lunch at the floating market area, then chill with a drink at the swim-up bar.
Highlights include a replica of James Bond Island, Southeast Asia’s longest lazy river, a floating market-style food court, and two swim-up bars. We usually spend the full day here, it’s fun, well-organised, and perfect when the heat kicks in. Go early to beat the crowds, especially during high season or Songkran. One thing worth knowing for families: the slides and water areas are organised by age group, so younger children have their own zones and safety is taken seriously. That said, kids always want to try the fastest slides. Expect negotiations.
Location: Kathu
Open: 10 am – 7 pm
Prices: Adults: 1,500 baht for adults, Kids: 1,000 Baht
Splash Jungle Water Park

Location: Mai Khao Beach
Splash Jungle is a medium-sized water park with water slides and a wave pool on Mai Khao Beach near Phuket Airport. The main attractions are the high slide and a mad spinning funnel that will make you dizzy. A large kids’ pool with a mini slide provides plenty of fun for the youngest.
If you are not a fan of fast sliders, you can gently drift along the 335-meter Lazy River or sit at the large pool bar while the kids are having their blast. It’s fun but rather expensive compared to water parks in most countries.
When Splash Jungle opened, it was the first water park in Phuket, and that was a big deal. It felt like the island finally had a real theme park. I went a couple of times, and it was fun, especially on hot days. The remote location in Mai Khao Beach makes it harder to reach for most visitors, and the price has always been on the high side, but if you are staying in that part of the island, it is worth a visit. Surf House Phuket

Location: Patong Beach
Surf House is an artificial wave flowing over a rubber floor, allowing anyone to get their first surfing experience in Phuket safely. It’s easy, fun and painless when you fall (and you will). Also, you won’t have to swim and wait for a wave; the wave is always here for you.
Instructors help you and your kids take their first steps; soon, you can stand independently. It’s not cheap, and there might be a bit of a wait to get your turn, but it’s fun to sit with a drink while watching other surfers survive. Read more
Location: Patong Beach
Open: 10 am to midnight
Price: 1,280 baht: 60 Minutes Session (Shared Use) / Rider
Learn Wakeboarding at Phuket Cable Ski

Location: Kathu
Wakeboarding with a cable ski is a lot easier than you might think. There are now three wake parks in Phuket, and even the youngest kids can try it with a kneeboard, which is much more stable but still gives you a good thrill. It is safe and so exhilarating that they will ask for more.
You can share the fun with them and talk about it for days! If you fall, you only fall in the water, and with the life jacket, it’s easy to reach the nearby edge where a bike will pick you up. 750 Baht for 1 hour, 1,000 Baht for 2 hours. Read about Phuket Wake Park in Kathu

Super Surf Kata

Location: Kata Beach
Super Surf Kata is an artificial wave machine in Kata Beach with two parallel flow lanes running side by side, which means a parent and child can surf at the same time. That alone makes it one of the better family activities on the island. It is easier than it looks. The rubber floor underneath the water means falling is painless, and once we knew that, the nerves went quickly. We fell a lot. The kids loved every second of it. It is open late, which makes it a good option for an evening activity after dinner. Surf House in Patong works on the same principle if you are based further north.
Location: Kata Beach
Open: 12 pm to 12 am
Animals
See and feed the Elephants

At Elephant Jungle Sanctuary Phuket, kids are offered an opportunity to interact with elephants in an enjoyable manner. Unlike the old and controversial practice of elephant trekking, no one rides the animals here.
Instead, guests can feed, play with, and bathe adult and baby elephants in a way that is unlike any other experience. Kids also have the chance to prepare food for the animals and then join them in muddy waters for playtime.
Elephant sanctuaries are a topic people feel strongly about. Most travellers now understand that riding elephants should be avoided, which is a good thing. Bathing with elephants and helping to scrub them feels like something the animals would enjoy, and most visitors, especially families with kids, come with good intentions. They want to do something positive for the elephants, and these sanctuaries give them that chance.
Location: Kathu
Visits: Morning 6:30 am – 12.30 pm, Afternoon 11.30 am – 5.30 pm
Prices: Adults: 5,500 baht – Children 7-10: 3,500 baht
Aquaria Phuket

Location: near Phuket Town
Aquaria Phuket sits on the B1 floor of Central Phuket Floresta, so it’s easy to pair with shopping or a meal on a rainy day. We walk through themed zones like Mystic Forest, Coastal Haven, South China Sea, and Station Aquarius, seeing penguins, rays, sharks, and playful otters up close.
Kids enjoy the touch pools and scheduled feeding talks, which help them learn about marine life. Plan around 1–2 hours for a relaxed visit with children, with plenty of benches and clear paths for strollers. There’s also an underwater-style dining option beside the big tank.
Location: Phuket Town
Open: 10.30 am – 7 pm, daily
Price: Adults 1,161 baht, children 630 baht (3-11 years old)
Length of visit: 1 hour and 45 minutes for your visit. Last admission occurs 1 hour before closing each day
Marine Biological Center at Hyatt Regency Phuket

Location: Near Kamala Beach
The Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort in Kamala Bay has a small Marine Biological Center run by resident marine biologist Marat Khaidarov. The centre offers hands-on sessions for families and school groups covering topics like how jellyfish develop, how clownfish and anemones live together, and how ocean chemistry is changing. Sessions are designed to be accessible for children and non-specialists. The centre is about 150 metres from the beach and open to guests and non-guests.
Directly in front of the resort, the house reef at Rayee Beach has moray eels, butterflyfish, porcupinefish and blue coral. Snorkelling and guided reef tours are available. It is one of the few places in Phuket where families can combine a proper marine education session with snorkelling on a live reef the same day. Worth considering if you are staying in Kamala or want something more educational than a standard beach day.
Phuket Aquarium

Location: Cape Panwa
The Phuket Aquarium in Cape Panwa is quite modest and is not to be compared with the massive Aquaria at Central Floresta in Phuket Town, but it is more educational and also serves as a Phuket Marine Biological Centre (PMBC) rather than an entertainment playground.
If you are in this area, it’s a great place to entertain you and your kids on a rainy day, and it might even be your chance to see baby turtles! It is also much more affordable than its new counterpart in Phuket town. Read more
Open: Daily from 8.30 am – 4.30 pm
Price: 180 Baht for adults and 100 Baht for kids
Family-Friendly Tours
Private Family Cruise to Phang Nga Bay

Hiring the whole boat for such a trip is a perfect way to spend a day with a family. The boat is yours to go anywhere, the team is attentive and competent, and the kids can enjoy canoeing and swimming with life jackets in amazing places. Meals are up to the guests; you can bring your picnic if you ordered one at your hotel, or ask the team in advance to prepare one for you, then eat on one of the many beaches in Phang Nga. As mentioned, you can also stop at Koh Panyi Village to enjoy fresh seafood. Read more
Fun Activities for the Whole Family
Mini Golf at Dino Park

Location: Kata Beach
Dino Park, in the centre of Kata Beach, is still fun and accessible entertainment for the family. With a pretty realistic prehistoric jungle haunted by full-size dinosaurs with an active volcano, it’s halfway between Jurassic Park and The Flintstones.
The 18-hole course is fun, not too hard nor too easy, but the area is rather hot. Once you finish a game, move to the Flintstones bar for a drink and one of their Dino burgers.
Dino Park has been operating as far as I can remember, and that is a long time. In the 1990s it was unlike anything else on the island. Dinosaurs always manage to capture kids’ imagination, and I went there a lot over the years. It was always fun and entertaining, though it gets very hot inside, so bring water and take your time. Phuket Adventure Mini Golf

Location: Bangtao Beach
Phuket Adventure Mini Golf in Bang Tao is a well-designed 18-hole course set in a garden of palm trees, bamboo, granite rocks and water features. It is more scenic than most mini golf courses and works well for mixed-age groups. Unlike Dino Park in Kata, which has a strong theme, this one lets the setting do the work. It is calmer and less intense, which suits younger children or anyone who wants a relaxed hour rather than a competitive game.
The Bang Tao location makes it convenient for families staying in that part of the island who want an activity that does not require a long drive south.
Take fun photos at The Upside Down House Museum and Fun Attractions

Location: near Phuket Town
The Upside Down House Museum and Fun Attractions is precisely what the name implies. This incredible house stands inverted on the side of the Bypass road outside Phuket Town. It will challenge your senses and offer plenty of fun photo opportunities. Each of the three floors of Baan Teelanka (‘upside-down house’ in Thai) is a replica of a real house but inverted.
A living room, kitchen, bed and even a tuk-tuk appear to be hanging from the ceiling until your brain realises that you might be at the wrong place! A garden maze in the back of the house will entertain the kids. Read more
Location: Near Phuket Town
Open: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Price for the House: Adults: 470 Baht, Kids: 240 Baht (4 to 11 years old)
Phuket Batik Painting Class

A batik workshop is an ideal activity for a break from the beach or as a thing to do in Phuket on a rainy day. No matter your age or level of expertise, you can participate in a batik class. The Phuket Batik Painting Class will guide you through the batik process step by step, starting from designing on paper, drawing your imagination with wax onto your handcrafted piece, and painting using traditional techniques.

Active Holidays and Sports for Kids
Indoor Go Karts

Location: Near Phuket Town
Formula Fun Karting is Thailand’s first indoor electric go-kart track, located near Phuket Town. Because the karts are electric, it is quieter and less fumey than outdoor tracks, which makes it much more comfortable for a full session. The track itself is fast enough to be exciting without being intimidating for first-timers or younger riders. There are also driving simulators and a driving academy programme for kids who want a more structured experience.
It works well as a rainy day option or for late afternoon when the heat outside makes anything else feel unappealing. The location near Phuket Town means it is a reasonable detour if you are already heading that way for Aquaria or the Old Town.
Glide on a Zipline at Flying Hanuman

Location: Kathu
Flying Hanuman in Kathu is a jungle zipline park that’s easy to reach from Patong and Phuket Town, ideal when we want an active break with kids who like adventure. Courses link wooden platforms, ziplines, sky bridges, and abseil points, with safety gear and at least two guides per group.
The site sits in a hillside forest, and operations aim to protect the environment while delivering a fun, fast experience. Kids from about 4 years old can join, with a typical max weight of 120 kg for adults; pregnant travellers aren’t allowed. Round-trip transfers are commonly included.
Flying Hanuman is fun but challenging if you have a fear of heights, which I did. Once you get past that, it is a good day out, especially for younger visitors who have so much energy for it. Kids come back with incredible stories to tell, and that alone makes it worth the trip. Read more
Rebel Rock Climbing

Location: Cherngtalay near Bangtao Beach
Located in Cherngtalay, on the way to Bangtao Beach, Rebel Rock Climbing is an impressive 3-story, 700 sqm indoor set of walls to ascend. Everyone, from kids to adults, from beginners to very advanced, can practice their skills on top-rope walls, boulder walls, lead climb walls, boulder caves and top-out boulder walls.
It looks great for corporate events as well. Friendly staff are here to teach you and help you find the best route to the top. Safety is taken seriously, and it is perfect for adults and kids, especially on a rainy day! Kids tend to outperform adults here. They are lighter, more flexible, and they have none of the hesitation that adults bring to a wall. We were outclimbed within minutes. Read more

Ice Skating at Ice Arena Phuket

Location: near Phuket Town
Ice Arena is a place to take the kids for a few hours of fun at the Boat Lagoon, not too far from Phuket Town. The price is 590 baht per hour and per person, including skates. The practice ‘penguin’ comes with an additional cost of 250 baht per hour, so you’d better learn fast! The Ice Arena is open from 9 am to 10 pm, and there are short breaks during the day to clean the ice. Read more
Location: Phuket Boat Lagoon Marina
Open: 9 am – 10 pm

Scare yourself at Game Space

Location: Patong Beach
Game Space is an indoor arcade and VR centre on Bangla Road in Patong, open from noon until 2 am. It has a mix of classic arcade games, VR headset experiences and a few spinning motion rides that look terrifying from the outside. It is good fun for an hour, especially for older kids and teenagers who have already done the beach and want something different in the evening or an occasional rainy day. The location on Bangla Road means it is in the middle of the Patong nightlife strip, which is worth knowing if you are travelling with younger children.
Location: Patong Beach (Bangla Road)
Address: 29/1 Bangla Road, Patong Beach, Phuket 83150
Open 12 noon – 2 am
Go Kart Racing

Which kid hasn’t dreamed of driving a real car? If they are 16 or older, give them the chance and let them take a kart solo. Younger children can ride in the back of a double kart as long as they are at least 125 cm tall. It feels much faster than it actually is when you are sitting low to the road, and the karts are well protected. Racing together is a real thrill, and letting the kids win once in a while never hurts. What we noticed quickly is that kids are far less cautious than adults in the tight corners. Adults bring their everyday driving instincts with them, which slows them down. Children have none of that. You can hear them screaming with excitement every time they take you over.
Read moreRide a Horse

Horse riding is available at two main locations: Phuket Riding Club in Chalong and Phuket International Horse Club in Bang Tao. Both offer beach or trail rides on small, calm horses that are easy for children to handle. It is a gentle activity that works well for younger kids who are not ready for anything too physical. Sessions are typically around an hour and include a guide who walks alongside. Ask at your hotel for the closest option to where you are staying.
Ride an ATV

ATV tours are available all over Phuket. The most important thing to know is that location matters. If you are staying in the north of the island, near Bang Tao or Nai Yang, the trail near Bangrong Pier is the most convenient option. It runs through mangrove forest and jungle to a small beach that you cannot reach by road. It is muddy, fun and feels hard to reach any other way.
If you are based in the south, the better option is one of the ATV tours on the hills around Big Buddha. The trails climb through jungle and end at a viewpoint with panoramic views over Chalong Bay, Rawai and the Andaman Sea. Several operators run these tours and they are easy to book from Kata, Karon or Chalong. If you are unsure which operator to use, just ask at your hotel. Most hotels can arrange an ATV tour from wherever you are staying on the island.
Most operators accept solo riders from around 12 to 15 years old depending on their rules. Children from 4 years old can join as a passenger with an adult. No prior riding experience is needed. There is always a safety briefing and a practice run before you head out on the trail.
One thing worth knowing: ATVs on public roads are noisy and can leave a muddy mess behind them. Not everyone on the island is a fan. The activity itself is fun, but it is not something that blends quietly into the surroundings. Keep that in mind if you are booking for a family holiday in a quieter part of the island.
Learn Diving in Phuket

Starting to dive young is a great way to open new horizons and create a special connection with children. You don’t have to go for the real full dive, but the Discover Scuba Diving course in the hotel pool is plenty of fun and a possible eye-opener for a future passion. If your child is old enough, Phuket has some excellent dive sites nearby without taking tedious courses. (starts eight years old).
White Water Rafting

This activity is for kids older than 12 years old. Khaosok, which is outside Phuket, is a popular location for rafting. After a short briefing, everyone gears up with helmets and life jackets, and down you go. Starting gently and progressively faster with several adrenaline-pumping moments, all very safe. Read more

How Travelling to Phuket with Kids has Changed
When I arrived in Phuket in 1994, there was almost nothing for families beyond the beach itself. Splash Jungle was the first water park on the island, and when it opened, it felt like a big deal. Before that, if you were here with kids, the options were the beach, the temple, or a day trip. That was about it. Over the years, I watched the island change.
Carnival Magic, Flying Hanuman, Andamanda, Aquaria, indoor climbing walls, wake parks, and ice skating. Phuket became one of the best family destinations in Southeast Asia, not just because of the beaches, but because of everything built around them. I have visited most of the places on this page, some of them many times, and a few of them with kids in tow.
