Le Meridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort Review
Le Meridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort is a peaceful 5-star hotel by the sea, north of Phuket Island between Phuket Airport and Sarasin Bridge, connecting Phuket to the mainland. The resort is perfect for families looking for a hideaway far from the busy beaches of Phuket. As we wandered around, it was obvious that the hotel strongly focused on families, designed so kids could have a lot of fun, but other guests could also enjoy a peaceful holiday.
The hotel is a large U-shape surrounding two large pools and a beautiful spa. The front of the hotel has direct access to the peaceful beach through a short path hidden by tall casuarina trees.

Mai Khao Beach
Mai Khao is known to be one of the most quiet beaches in Phuket because it is part of a national park. The beach is 11 km long, with no beach chairs or food vendors. It is a great place for long walks along the sea to admire the sunset at the end of the day. It is important to respect the red flags during the low season, usually June to November, because the waves can be strong and the two powerful. This is when having such a large, beautiful swimming pool becomes important. Read more
The Rooms
At Le Meridien Mai Khao, there are 241 rooms and 12 room types, and we picked a private pool Deluxe room. Our Premium Guest Room with Private Pool was a good size (41sqm/441sqft) and beautifully decorated with a large, comfortable bed.
In front of the room is a small private terrace with a lounger and a small plunge pool, great for relaxing after a day exploring Phuket. The bathroom has all the amenities you can expect from a brand such as Le Meridien. However, there was no bathtub.
Next to the bed is a large sofa and a small round table covered with welcome treats and cakes. There was no working station in case you plan to work a bit, as travellers often do.
The Pools
Two very large pools are waiting for you in the middle of the hotel, close to the beach. The adult pool is large and relatively shallow, making it safe for the kids. There are plenty of inviting sun loungers with umbrellas, and the beach towels are ready to be picked up nearby.
The Kid’s Pool
The kid’s pool is very shallow and has plenty of fun activities the little ones will love: a water slide, water cannons, and a bucket filled with water that drenches the kids every five minutes.
The Spa and Fitness
The spa is quite impressive. It’s a place everyone should try when on holiday in Phuket. It’s great for helping you recover from jet lag or busy city life! They offer a long list of treatments, including a couple of packages. As usual, we recommend booking early on rainy days as many guests tend to all get the same idea of what to do on a rainy day!
The Restaurants
There are two restaurants and a coffee shop at Le Meridien Mai Khao: J’s, The Nook and Ocean Kitchen.
J’s Restaurant
Located in the middle of the hotel, J’s is the main restaurant, open all day but mostly popular in the morning for its impressive breakfast buffet. Guests can enjoy a surprisingly vast choice of quality food, Asian or Western. Breakfast is so important before starting your day; you can see that people take it slow and try a bit of everything.
Ocean Kitchen
Ocean Kitchen is near the beach and serves Mediterranean food and pizzas. Guests can sit indoors if they prefer to enjoy the air con, but the outdoor area is the most popular, with the sea visible between the trees. This is a good place to end the day with a drink by the pool; you can even walk to the beach to enjoy the sunset with a drink in your hand.

The Kid’s Club
The Kids Club is the highlight of the hotel. Large and beautifully decorated, it has plenty of fun activities for the little ones to have a blast. The most popular place is always the huge ball pit, then the outdoors sliders in the dedicated garden. Just metres away, the shallow kids’ pool is irresistible, with water slides and water cannons.
The team is great, friendly, attentive and very creative. We were impressed by the amount of activities available on the weekly schedule, and the batik painting was the most impressive activity.
