The rooms and villas are surrounded by green gardens and beautiful sea views just beyond the tall casuarina and coconut trees. The Location and the Beach
Mai Khao is an immense and peaceful stretch of sand in the north of the island. The beach is great for relaxing, taking long romantic walks, swimming during the high season and enjoying stunning sunsets at the end of the day. There are no beach chairs on the beach but there are some under the trees just next to it. Guests can even enjoy some local and cheap open-air massage under the trees, the perfect way to release the stress from city life i a tropical setting!
The Rooms and Suites
The hotel is immense, with more than 262 rooms and 15 room types to choose from. We stayed in a Family Room with 2 double beds, a garden view and partial sea view, and a balcony (51sqm / 549sqft). The room is large, with a small balcony overlooking the garden and the sea beyond the trees. The hotel is 20 years old so the furniture is a bit ageing but still looks good. There is a working desk and an extra bed by the window to relax while enjoying the garden views. The TV screen is new and very big, with plenty of international channels for everyone to watch news, movies and kids’ stuff.
There is a desk and plenty of plugs around the room, making it convenient to charge all your electronic devices. The room comes with a full mini bar, a safe deposit box and a water boiler. Unfortunately, there were no espresso machines with capsules like most 5-star hotels now provide to their guests.
The bathroom is comfortable with a big bathtub you will appreciate after a day out exploring Phuket and the islands around. Of course, there is a separate shower, with plenty of shampoo, conditioner and body shampoo and all the amenities you expect to find in a 5-star hotel.
Restaurant and Bars
Discover a variety of international cuisines at JW Phuket Resort & Spa, starting the day with an immense buffet breakfast at JW Cafe. Enjoy delicious local seafood and steakhouse dishes at The Andaman Grill by the beach, watch skilled chefs at Benihana Restaurant or try authentic Thai cuisine at Ginja Taste. Whether indoors or outdoors, enjoy your dinner as the sun sets over the ocean.
Andaman Grill
Benihana Japanese Steakhouse
M Beach Club Phuket
Sala Sawasdee Lobby Bar
Open: 12 pm – 12 am
Coffee Shop
The coffee shop is vast and serves a good espresso, among other things of course, but I was really happy to sit and relax after shooting all day 😉
Open: 7 am – 10 pm
Facilities
JW Marriott Phuket Resort is located in a relatively remote and quiet part of Phuket, so it seemed logical for the hotel to offer plenty of outlets and facilities to keep everyone busy and happy. In case you are worried about the location, any tour you will book to explore Phuket, Phang Nga Bay or any island around always includes transportation from and to your hotel, so it does not make much difference where you are based in Phuket.
Swimming Pools
There are 3 large swimming pools at JW Marriott Phuket Resort, including one with sliders for the kids, with a total surface of 2,810 square metres, open from 9 am to 6 pm.
Watersports
The Spa
The Spa is immense with very impressive treatment rooms, including couples rooms with double treatment beds, a big bath and a relaxing outdoor Sala. Treatments available are body scrub, body wrap, couples massages, facials, instructions in the art of massage, kids services, manicures/pedicures, massages, steam room, therapy bath, waxing.
Fitness
The fitness is immense and well-equipped, with modern machines. Guests can also borrow mountain bikes, for adults and for kids, to explore around. The roads are not busy so it is quite safe and fun. Open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
Amazing Kids Club
The Kids Club is one of the highlights of JW Marriott Phuket Resort, probably one of the best places to take your kids in Phuket. The indoor playground is huge with so many toys and features, even a pool table! The swimming pool with sliders is just nearby and kids love it. There are plenty of daily activities and even outdoor movies played after dinner. Most importantly, the team is fantastic and truly caring for the kids, making sure they have the best possible time. This is also a chance for parent to leave their kids (starting 4 years old) in a fun and safe place while relaxing on their own.
Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation
Mai Khao is a beach in Phuket that actively supports nesting turtles. There is a foundation dedicated to protecting these turtles and maintaining clean waters and beaches on the island. Visitors can learn about the foundation’s history, the turtle population in Phuket, and the importance of preserving the turtles’ habitats. The mission is to raise awareness about turtle conservation and encourage the public to help protect these vulnerable habitats. Entry is free for both hotel guests and the general public, with donations appreciated, and all proceeds contribute to the well-being of the turtles. The turtle release occurs every year on April 13.
