Best Beachfront Hotels in Phuket
Staying in a true beachfront hotel in Phuket is the dream for most travellers, and for good reason. The beaches here can be spectacular. But out of the thousands of hotels on the island, only a handful sit directly on the sand with no road to cross. Those that do come at a premium, so it pays to know exactly what you are getting.
I have visited or stayed at every hotel on this list. The ones below are ranked based on the quality of the beach, the hotel itself, what is available nearby, and whether the price matches the experience. I gave extra weight to the beach, because if you are paying for beachfront, the sand and water had better deliver.
I sorted the best hotels on the beach in Phuket using the following criteria, and I gave extra points for the beach quality, the hotel’s quality of service, the hotel’s features, and what is available around the hotel.

Important: beach quality changes dramatically between the high season (November to May) and the low season (June to October). A hotel with a perfect 10/10 beach in February can feel very different in August when the waves pick up, and red flags go out.
This list only includes hotels with direct sand access. No streets to cross, no shuttle buses, no “beach is a 5-minute walk.” If you cannot walk from the pool to the sand, it is not on this list.

The hotel is divided into two distinct wings, one on each side of Kamala’s main road and each with a very different character.
The beachfront wing is smaller and has a modern look, with a swimming pool, a beach club, and a beach restaurant. The design is very contemporary, with multi-storey buildings facing the beach.

It is quiet, not within walking distance of any restaurants or bars, but Patong and Kata are just a short tuk-tuk ride away. Prices are affordable for such a fantastic beach with so many facilities. SAii Laguna Phuket is an immense resort with full and wide access to Bang Tao beach. It is famous for its themed pool, great kids activities, watersports, and even a wedding chapel. Outrigger is part of the Laguna Complex, and you can enjoy the facilities of the other resorts.
The Boat Avenue shopping village is a trendy neighbourhood with plenty of great shops and restaurants nearby (accessible via a free shuttle). Just next to the hotel is a line of local restaurants and small bamboo bars right on the beach, a great way to spend a holiday between the beach and local Thai restaurants without having to walk much.

Angsana Laguna Phuket is a vast hotel on Bangtao Beach, a beautiful location on the west coast of Phuket. With more than 300 rooms, lofts and suites, the hotel is immense, and most of the bedrooms offer lake or pool views. There is beach access at the front, but no rooms with beach views. The resort will please travellers who plan to spend most of their time on the beach and the neighbourhood, with many facilities and outlets within the hotel. With a large Kids’ Club and dedicated pools, it will please families and kids a lot.
The resort is immense and built on three floors. It is a little intimidating at first and takes some time to orientate, but you will soon get used to the geography. There is quite a distance between the reception and the beach, and you can walk through the garden or use the long covered path that runs in case of rain.

JW Marriott is an immense luxury resort on Mai Khao Beach, with more restaurants and facilities than you will ever need during your holidays, which is good since there is very little to do outside the Resort. This hotel is for travellers who prefer to spend their holiday in one place and don’t plan to party or shop much.
It is easy to book a day trip to Phang Nga, or Phi Phi, or take a taxi and see Patong at least once. If you rented a car, you would be able to explore both north and south of Phuket (The north of the island is a lot more beautiful since it has remained more natural).
