Is February a Good Time to Visit Phuket?
February is still the high season in Phuket, and the conditions are perfect. The sky is blue, the sea is calm and clear, and the temperature is comfortable. On the other hand, the most popular beaches can get very busy (Patong, Kata, Nai Harn), so heading north to discover the quietest beaches of Phuket is a good idea. As usual, each year is a little different, and unexpected rains are possible, especially at night. Read more about Phuket weather.

Rain Chart for Phuket in February

Sea Condition in February
Similar to January, the sea remains calm with excellent visibility. Little to no waves make it perfect for water activities. All beaches are safe for swimming, and conditions are ideal for snorkelling and diving.
What to Do in Phuket in February
February is one of the best months to visit. Phuket weather in February is usually stable, with mostly clear skies and calm waters, making it easy to explore all the islands nearby: Phi Phi, Koh Racha, Coral Island and the Similans. On the downside, the beaches on those islands can be quite busy, and you may have to walk a bit to find a quiet spot.
Island Hopping
February offers perfect conditions for island hopping. The sea is calm, visibility is excellent, and rain is rare. The Similan Islands are at their best. Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay are busy but stunning. Book popular tours a few days in advance.
Beach Time
All of Phuket’s beaches are at their best in February. The sea is calm, the sand is clean, and the sky is blue. Popular beaches are busy, so consider the northern beaches like Mai Khao, Nai Yang, Nai Thon or Banana Beach for a quieter experience.
Events and Festivals
Valentine’s Day
Spending February on a tropical island as beautiful as Phuket is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day. There are many romantic restaurants around Phuket with beautiful settings, sea views and sunsets. Some hotels can even set up private tables on the beach. If you’re planning to propose, February 14 is a popular choice.
Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year often falls in late January or early February (dates vary based on the lunar calendar). If it falls in February, Old Phuket Town comes alive with decorations, dragon dances and celebrations. The strong Chinese heritage of Phuket makes this a significant local festival.
Thailand Biennale Phuket 2025-2026
Thailand Biennale Phuket 2025 is a national contemporary art biennial featuring Thai and international artists under the theme “Eternal [Kalpa].” The edition runs from November 2025 to April 2026, with exhibitions across multiple districts and outdoor/indoor venues on the island.

What to Pack for February
Pack light, breathable clothing. T-shirts, shorts, skirts and sandals are all you need. The temperature is warm, and rain is very unlikely. High-SPF sunscreen is essential as the UV is at its highest in February. Sunglasses and a hat are recommended. Read more in my full packing guide for Phuket.
Insider Tips
February is one of the driest months of the year. Rain is rare, and when it does fall, it’s usually brief and at night. Don’t let a few clouds worry you.
The UV index peaks in February. Even short sun exposure can cause sunburn. Reapply sunscreen frequently, especially after swimming. The reflection off the water intensifies the effect.
Hotel prices remain high but start to ease slightly compared to January. The Christmas/New Year rush is over, so availability improves. Late February offers better value than early February.
February is the last month before the hot season begins. March and April are significantly hotter. If you prefer comfortable temperatures, February is a better choice.
Popular tours and restaurants fill up quickly. Book Similan Islands trips and romantic Valentine’s Day dinners several days in advance.
The best way to check real conditions is my daily weather timelapses. Each video shows a full day compressed into one minute. Nothing helps more than seeing what a typical February day actually looked like last year.
February Weather Through the Years
February marks the end of the “cool season” in Phuket. The comfortable temperatures of December and January start to warm up. By late February, you can feel the heat building toward the hot season.
The consistency of February weather is remarkable. Blue skies day after day, calm seas, virtually no rain. It’s the most reliable month for planning outdoor activities.
What changes is the temperature. Early February still feels comfortable. By late February, the midday sun has more bite. The transition is gradual but noticeable. Those sensitive to heat may prefer early February.
Valentine’s Day brings a festive atmosphere to the island. Hotels and restaurants prepare special dinners. Beaches see more couples than families. The romantic setting of Phuket makes it a popular proposal destination.
For divers and snorkellers, February offers some of the best visibility of the year. The seas are calm, the water is clear, and marine life is active. The Similan Islands are at their peak.
