An Open-Air Lifestyle Mall in Bangtao Beach

Porto de Phuket is an open-air community mall in Bangtao Beach, right next to the popular Boat Avenue and at the entrance of Laguna Phuket. Central Group opened this 1.5-billion-baht project in December 2019, creating the first lifestyle retail space of its kind in Thailand. Unlike the multi-storey Central Phuket or Central Patong, Porto de Phuket spreads across 40,000 square metres of single-storey buildings, with green areas covering two-thirds of the site. The design blends contemporary warehouse style with Phuket’s tin mining heritage and Sino-Portuguese influences.

Porto de Phuket open air mall in Bangtao Beach

Porto de Phuket serves the many residents of condominiums, apartments and luxury villas in the Laguna area. It is also useful for visitors staying at nearby resorts and hotels around Bangtao Beach, Layan Beach and Surin Beach. The mall sits about 30 minutes from Phuket Airport and offers free parking for 300 cars and 100 motorbikes. It is one of the few pet-friendly malls in Phuket, with dedicated walking areas and pet grooming services.

What’s New at Porto de Phuket in 2026

Porto de Phuket keeps evolving, and the dining zone is where most of the changes happen. Im En Ville is the latest addition, an all-day restaurant mixing Thai classics with Western dishes. The Farmer and The Fisherman, which opened in 2024, has settled in as one of the most reliable restaurants here.

Some retail units change hands from time to time, which is normal for a mall of this size, but the anchors remain the same: Central Food Hall, SuperSports, B2S and Let’s Relax Spa. The mall also hosts regular weekend events, from community runs to kids’ activities, so check their Facebook page before your visit if you want to catch one.

Shopping at Porto de Phuket

Porto de Phuket has a curated selection of retail shops spread across several low-rise buildings. The focus is on lifestyle brands, sportswear and Thai heritage products rather than fast fashion.

Central Food Hall Supermarket

Central Food Hall at Porto de Phuket

Central Food Hall is the main anchor of Porto de Phuket and one of the best supermarkets on the west coast. It covers a large surface and displays an impressive range of goods, both local and imported. The store includes fresh meat and seafood counters, a daily bakery, and a walk-in cheese room stocking over 400 varieties. The temperature-controlled wine cellar holds around 400 labels. A Grill Bar inside the store offers hot meals and salads for dine-in or takeaway. If you live or stay in the Bangtao area, you now have the choice between Central Food Hall here or Villa Market next door on Boat Avenue.

Shops and Retail

  • SuperSports occupies one of the larger units and sells sports gear, swimwear, running shoes, training apparel, tennis and golf equipment. This is handy if you forgot workout gear or need new flip-flops for the beach.
  • B2S sits next to SuperSports and stocks books, magazines, toys and stationery.
  • Jim Thompson sells Thai silk products, from scarves and ties to home décor items. This heritage brand started in 1951 and remains a classic Thai souvenir choice.
  • Bangkok Bootery has been making leather goods since 1937. The store here sells bags, shoes, jackets and wallets in exotic leathers.
  • Havaianas sells the Brazilian flip-flop brand in various colours and styles.
  • Rip Curl and Billabong offer surf and beach wear.
  • Boots Pharmacy stocks health and beauty products.

Restaurants and Cafes

Porto de Phuket has more than a dozen restaurants and cafes, ranging from local Thai food to international dining. The restaurant zone brings together several well-known names from Phuket and beyond.

Tu Kab Khao is a famous local Phuket restaurant with branches in the Old Town (Michelin Bib Gourmand) and here at Porto de Phuket. The menu focuses on traditional southern Thai and Peranakan dishes. Signature items include crab curry with thin rice noodles, moo hong (pork belly stew), and shrimp in tamarind sauce. Reservations are recommended.

Suay Restaurant

Suay serves Thai fusion food created by an Iron Chef. This is the third branch in Phuket. The menu includes items like water chestnut risotto with foie gras, lemongrass lamb chops with papaya salsa, and braised beef cheek in massaman curry. A good choice for a special dinner.

Spa and Wellness

Let’s Relax Spa

Let's Relax Spa Porto de Phuket

Let’s Relax Spa has a branch at Porto de Phuket, their eighth location in Phuket. The design takes inspiration from the island’s tin mining heritage, blending industrial elements with contemporary style. The spa offers traditional Thai massage, aromatherapy, reflexology and body scrubs. After each treatment, they serve Thai snacks and herbal drinks. Booking in advance is recommended.

Family Friendly

Porto de Phuket has a children’s playground with equipment suitable for younger kids. The open layout and green spaces make it a relaxed place for families to walk around. The mall is wheelchair and stroller accessible with wide pathways and ramps.

Pet Friendly

Porto de Phuket is one of the few shopping malls in Phuket that welcomes pets. There are designated walking areas for dogs and a pet care centre offering grooming services and accessories. Note that individual restaurants may have their own pet policies.

Porto de Phuket or Boat Avenue?

Many readers ask me which one to visit, but the question does not really make sense once you are there. Porto de Phuket and Boat Avenue are right next to each other, separated by a small road, so most people walk through both in the same outing. They are quite different though.

Boat Avenue is the older of the two, built as rows of two-storey shophouses with bars, restaurants, cafes and Villa Market supermarket. It feels more like a small village street, and it gets busy in the evening, especially during the Friday night market.

Porto de Phuket is newer, more spacious and more organised. It has Central Food Hall, larger brand shops like SuperSports and B2S, a children’s playground, and proper free parking for 300 cars. It is also the better choice if you bring your dog.

My advice is simple. Come in the late afternoon, shop at Porto de Phuket, then walk across to Boat Avenue for dinner and drinks. On Fridays, time your visit with the night market.
