Kamala Beach Photo Gallery

Kamala Beach is a relaxed, mid-length beach on Phuket’s west coast, about 10 minutes north of Patong. The beach is around 2 kilometres long, with soft sand and a gentle slope into the water. A small fishing village sits at the southern end, giving the area a local feel that many of the more developed beaches have lost.

The northern part of the beach is home to several luxury resorts and the Cafe del Mar beach club. The southern end is more traditional, with longtail boats, a few Thai restaurants, and a mosque at the edge of the village. The contrast between the two ends is part of what makes Kamala interesting.

Kamala works well for families and couples who want something quieter than Patong but not too isolated. There are enough hotels and restaurants to be comfortable without feeling commercial.

I have been photographing Kamala Beach since the late 1990s, and the photos in this gallery show the beach across different years and seasons. Some of the earlier shots show how much quieter the area used to be. All photos are my own. For the full travel guide, see Kamala Beach.
