Karon Beach Photo Gallery
Karon Beach is one of the longest beaches in Phuket, stretching about 3 kilometres along the west coast between Patong and Kata. The sand is pale and coarse, and it squeaks underfoot when you walk on it. The beach is wide and rarely feels crowded, even in peak season.
Swimming is good from November to April, when the sea is calm and clear. During the monsoon months, the waves can be strong, and lifeguards post red flags when conditions are dangerous. A long beachfront road runs parallel to the sand, lined with a few hotels and restaurants, but the area is much quieter than Patong.
Karon has a slower pace than its neighbours. There is no real nightlife strip, and the town behind the beach is compact and easy to walk around. It is a good choice for travellers who want a long, uncrowded beach close to hotels and restaurants.
I have been photographing Karon Beach for over 20 years, through all seasons and conditions. The photos in this gallery show the beach at different times of day and year, from the bright blues of the dry season to the powerful waves of the monsoon. All photos are my own.
