A Unique Collection of Photos of Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, with more than 30 beaches along its west coast, a historic old town on the east side, and some of the best day trips in Southeast Asia just a short boat ride away. The island offers an enormous variety of landscapes and experiences, from the busy tourist strip of Patong Beach to the quiet, untouched coves of the north and south.

The West Coast beaches are where most visitors spend their time. KataKaronKamala, and Bang Tao each have their own character. Inland, Phuket Town has colourful Sino-Portuguese architecture, local food, and street art. Offshore, Phi Phi Island and Phang Nga Bay are among the most photographed destinations in Thailand.

I arrived in Phuket in 1994 and started photographing the island almost immediately. I have carried a camera everywhere since 2000, and the photos in this gallery represent more than two decades of exploration. Some shots show places that have changed beyond recognition. Others show beaches and views that look exactly the same as they did 20 years ago. All photos are my own, taken across every part of the island and its surroundings. I arrived in Phuket in 1994 and have never left. After travelling through 40+ countries and working with Club Med and Expedia, where I created the Hotels.com Go Guides international travel guide with my team, I launched Phuket 101 in 2011 to share what I've explored, discovered and learned. Everything here comes from personal experience, with my own photography and videos from across Thailand. Follow me on Facebook, 1M+ Phuket community and Instagram!View Author posts
