Dim Sum in Phuket
If you love Dim Sum, you will enjoy Hong Bao at Ramada Phuket. Of course, Phuket is known to have plenty of local dim sum restaurants, but they usually serve a very simple selection prepared with basic ingredients, and while they are great for budget breakfast, they are no match for the popular Sunday family Dim Sum lunch.
Hong Bao, which is the name of that red Chinese envelope distributed on Chinese New Year, is already a very popular Cantonese-style restaurant in Bangkok, and we often enjoy lunch or dinner at Hong Bao Central Embassy.
We went to Hong Bao twice recently and enjoyed a vast choice of dim sum and other dishes. The restaurant is vast and beautifully decorated, located on the ground floor of the Ramada Hotel, between Phuket Town and the Chalong area. The sitting is very comfortable and the menu is well illustrated and easy to read, which helps a lot your hungry imagination to decide which Dim Sum you want to pick.
As it was a special occasion, we ordered the Roasted Whole Peking Duck Beijing Style, which is carved at your table (1,550 baht), with a Hot and Spicy Sour Soup Sze Chuan style (300 baht) and Steamed Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce (110 baht), For the dumpling, we had the Hong Bao Steamed Supreme Shrimp abd Pork Dumpling and the Shanghai Xiao Long Bao which are dumpling with soup inside and a bit challenging to eat the first time (120 baht). We also had the Golden Salty Eggs Creamy Buns at an ending (110 baht)
Hong Bao Ramada Phuket’s menu is huge and features a long list of dishes that should please everyone, including abalone and a lot of seafood, but it would take too long to describe them all here.
Overall, the restaurant is attractive and welcoming, maybe a bit too far from town and beaches, but worth visiting if you have your own transportation. The service is a bit inconsistent but will probably improve with time. As previously mentioned, Hong Bao Ramada Phuket is a good place for your Sunday Dim Sum or if you want something more sophisticated than the local restaurants.
