Central Embassy – Bangkok Luxury Shopping Mall

A Luxury Mall in Ploenchit

Central Embassy Bangkok is an immense and beautifully designed luxury shopping mall built in the Ploenchit neighbourhood at the intersection of Ploenchit Road and Wireless Road (Witthayu Road). Central Embassy is also home to the 5-star Park Hyatt Bangkok Hotel and the last shopping mall on what is often called the ‘Bangkok Shopping Mile’. The main attraction in recent years is the vast amount of restaurants and many upmarket dining options.

Like many luxury malls, Embassy had a difficult start in an ever-evolving market; people shopping increasingly online rather than visiting shops made the mall constantly close and open shops. And like many, the shift from shops to restaurants is obvious. The mall is never really busy, even on weekends, which in a way, makes it quite attractive, especially if you come for lunch or dinner.

There are 6 levels at Central Embassy

Lower Ground Level – Eathai Food Court

This is where visitors can enjoy Eathai, a high-end food court that is well designed and serves more sophisticated food than in your usual food court. Many of the stalls are actually from popular or even famous Thai restaurants. The place is vast but can be busy at lunchtime because of the easy access to the many offices around.

A large section of Eathai is a supermarket specializing in local products, dry fruits, condiments and spices. It is immense and a great way to discover what goes into Thai food too!

Ground Level

Just like in most luxury malls, expect to find all the classic expensive brands with shiny names, but very few customers here: Channel, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Gucci, Burberry, Givenchy, Versace, Jimmy Choo, Hermes, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent.

Level 1

Level 1 is the same as ground level with all the expected expensive brands. Prada and Gucci occupy two floors. Paul Smith, Kenzo, Viviene Westwood, Michael Kors, MCM, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Ralph Laurent, Moschino, and Missoni have the largest shops. Other brands are also available in smaller shops: Alexandre McQueen and Marimekko.

The only restaurant on this floor is Paul Boulangerie and Viennoiserie, famous for serving bread, baguettes, and cakes and their brasserie-style restaurant. Paul is just at the mall entrance to the BTS access.

Level 2

The second floor is a little more affordable; brand names are a little more casual for most. Boyy, Tumi, MCM, Sandro, G-Star Raw, and the immense franchises: Zara (2 floors), Massimo Dutti and the unavoidable Sephora. You will find a few small shops, such as The Vintage Store.

On this floor, you will find two popular restaurants: a massive Dean & Deluca, where you can eat and shop. Just opposite is the famous Harrods, a bakery, a restaurant, and a boutique, but also a popular selfie spot with its immense teddy bears.

This floor also gives you access to the immense Central Chidlom Department Store via a covered bridge above the street.

Level 3

On level 3, you will find even more casual brands inside oversized shops: Zara, Uniqlo, Muji and a large iStudio shop. There are only two restaurants on this floor, Kub Kao Kap Pla, which is a rather difficult name to memorize, is very popular and serves excellent Thai food in a beautifully designed restaurant, and Coffee Bean by Dao, which also serves Thai food

Level 4

Level 4 is dedicated to cosmetic shops, Moga hairdressers, and Truefitt and Hill, a classy barber from London. You will also find mobile services (True and AIS), banks (SCB and KBank) and furniture shops (Motif and Jaspal). There is also a fancy wine shop called Godfather, but it can be a little intimidating if you are not a true connoisseur. You can find a Bose shop. It’s small, but because it is not part of a department store, you can test the sound without being disturbed by the loud environment.

Level 5

Level 5 is food heaven, and without a doubt, this floor is the busiest! The entire floor is dedicated to lunch or dining, with a vast range of excellent restaurants, ranging from ‘relatively expensive’ to ‘very expensive’.

waer library at central embassy

Here is a list to help you pick:

Thai food

  • Thong Smith (Noodle Soup)
  • Somtum Der (Thai)
  • Somboon seafood (mostly crab-based dishes)
  • Song Fa Bak Kut Teh

A few Japanese restaurants:

  • Tetsu (Yakiniku)
  • Hinata (sushi, including omakase)
  • Nabezo Premium (luxury sukiyaki)
  • Maisen
  • Ippudo (Ramen)

International cuisine:

  • Another Hound
  • Din Tai Fun (Dim Sum)
  • Hong Bao (Dim Sum)

Siwilai Rooftop Bar

the fifth level is home to a modest rooftop bar. Siwilai is not very high, but the terrace has decent views of the nearby modern skyscrapers of Ploenchit and the endless line of the BTS SkyTrain. In addition to minimal views and being blocked by a wall of plants in pots, the tables on the edge of the terrace always seem to be booked. Any other table offers no view, defeating the purpose of a rooftop.

Siwilai Sky Club

Note that there are two more rooftop bars above this one, and both parts are on the Park Hyatt Bangkok hotel, including the Penthouse on the 35th floor.

Level 6

Level 6 is home to Open House, an unusual luxury dining concept combined with an immense library. It seems a little surprising at first, but it does look good, and with a very high ceiling, it is spacious and welcoming. This resembles another food court, but here you order from upmarket restaurants, mostly western, and your food will be brought to you wherever you feel like sitting. There are a few more regular restaurants around, including a few with an outdoor terrace facing the back of the building, where the old British embassy used to be (hence the name of the mall possibly)

in the central area, hungry shoppers can enjoy Broccoli Revolution (vegetarian), The Raw Bar serving lobsters, oysters and moules, Muteki Japanese fusion cuisine, and Nam Pastas & Tapas. The restaurants around are Peppina (Italian), Bonchon (Korean Fried Chicken)

Diplomat Screens movie theatre

This floor is also where the exclusive Embassy Diplomat Screens movie theatre is (or was), but the cinema’s popularity has lost so much of its appeal it is hard to say if the place is closed due to Covid or because of the lack of customers.
