Tichuca Rooftop Bar
Tichuca rooftop bar is the latest high rise venue in Bangkok, and despite opening in the challenging time of Covid, it is a big success. The attractive and unusual design spreading on several floors is beautiful and is intensely shared on social media. Tichuca is packed every day with a young hi-so clientele who would never miss such an opportunity to fulfil their passion for a new selfie background. Get ready to witness a permanent photo shooting frenzy as you explore around!
The main rooftop bar area is on the 42nd floor, with a vast bar counter and a large illuminated decoration suspended above it. The rooftop design is attractive and stretches over two zones, connected by a narrow metal open-air staircase. There is actually a small glass lift to go from one bar to the other, but it is so slow that barely anyone uses it.
Guests can sit at the bar or small tables spread across the wooden terrace. If the place is full, and it always is, you can also walk a few floors up and enjoy a smaller square bar counter. This second area has no tables but a small narrow glass counter all around where you can place your drinks. Surprisingly, this second terrace offers a better view and better panoramic photos of Bangkok, with the long Sukhumvit BTS line stretching all the way to Siam Paragon.
The crew is very friendly and patient, even when the place is packed, which is most of the time. Note that reservations are not possible; it’s on a first-come, first-served basis.
How to get there?
Getting to the T-One building is easy; take the BTS Skytrain and stop at Thonglor station. The building is just 200 meters away.
On the contrary to all other rooftop bars in Bangkok, Tichuca is not on the top floor of a hotel. T-One is rather an office building with some shared workspaces (7 storeys are dedicated to WeWork). As you arrive, you are a little bit on your own as there is no real reception to welcome you as it always is in hotels. As you walk into the lobby, the name ‘Tichuca Roooftop’ is easy to spot on the right-hand side, written in light letters above a small room where the lift is waiting for you.
If you arrive at five as we did, don’t be surprised, there is already a queue, and social distancing in the elevator is impossible despite the usual stickers! People tend to fight to arrive first when they know that seats are limited. The lift only takes you to the 40th floor, where you need to switch to another one for two more floors. People look very confused, both on the way up and the way down.
Where does the name Tichuca come from?
We were a bit curious so we had to ask: ‘Ti’ comes from the name Tijuca National Bark in Brazil that also matches the first letter of the T-One Building. ‘Chuca’ loosely comes from Mezcal Pechuca (Pechuga) which is associated with fun party.
