Amazing View from the 61st floor of One City Center
Akara Sky Hanuman Bangkok is one of the most impressive rooftop bars to open in Bangkok in recent years. Perched on the 61st floor of One City Center in Ploenchit, opposite the Central Embassy, it offers an almost 360-degree panoramic view of the Bangkok skyline.

Akara Sky Hanuman is the second tallest rooftop bar in Bangkok, right after the Mahanakhon Skywalk, but the atmosphere is a lot more cosy. Mahanakhon is more of a tourist attraction where the bar area is small and packed. Akara Sky Hanuman is huge, with plenty of excellent seating spread across the terrace.

The centrepiece of the rooftop is an immense statue of Hanuman, a revered figure from the Hindu epic Ramayana. He is known for his strength, loyalty, and devotion, and is often depicted as a monkey god and a symbol of courage and righteousness. The name Akara Sky Hanuman references both the building and this iconic figure. A DJ plays under the statue throughout the evening, and a Thai cultural show runs in front of it at 9 pm.

The view is genuinely hard to beat. From the terrace, you can see the Siam district directly in front, with Siam Paragon and Central World clearly visible. Behind the bar, the vast grid of Sukhumvit stretches towards the horizon. At night, the city glows in every direction. It is one of those views that genuinely surprises you the first time you step out onto the terrace.

The bar focuses mainly on cocktails and spirits, with a selection of tapas on the side. The cocktail menu takes some inspiration from Thai ingredients and mythology. It is not a full restaurant, so my advice is to have dinner somewhere nearby first and come here for drinks and the atmosphere.

Getting there is straightforward. There is direct access from BTS Ploenchit, just 100 metres away. Walk from the BTS bridge to the tower, cross the One City Centre garden through the first building, and make your way to the second building. Ask at the counter for directions to the rooftop since the elevator to the 61st floor is tucked below the reception area. It is a little hidden, but the staff will point you in the right direction.

Booking a table in advance is a good idea, especially if you want a spot near the edge. I would call ahead and ask specifically for a terrace seat with a city-facing view. That is where the experience really comes into its own.
Virtual Floating Lanterns Display

One of the newer additions to the Akara rooftop experience is the Virtual Floating Lanterns display. The installation projects hundreds of glowing lanterns rising slowly into the Bangkok night sky, creating the look of a traditional Loi Krathong release without any of the fire or wind risk. Seen from 61 floors up, with the city spread out below, it is a striking effect. It runs as part of the evening programme and makes for a memorable photo moment against the skyline backdrop.
