Kathu

Kathu has a rich history and a strategic location between Patong Beach and Phuket Town. Despite being less known to tourists, Kathu offers a surorisingly vast choice of excellent local restaurants. The area is also home to several attractions, including Kathu Waterfall, the family-friendly Andamanda Water Park, the beautiful but lesser-kown Kathu Temple, and the exhilarating Flying Hanuman Zipline adventure.

              Somtam Puma 2 Kathu is another hidden local restaurant we always enjoy in Kathu. The food is excellent and truly local, the team is great, it’s cheap, and the surroundings are fun. You can sit at normal tables, or one of those ‘salas’ most tourists find rather uncomfortable.

              Kathu Shrine – Lai Thu Tao Bo Keng Shrine ⛩️

                Lai Thu Tao Bo Keng is one of the oldest Chinese shrines in Phuket, and many believe it was the birthplace of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival nearly two centuries ago, 1825 to be precise. The shrine is located in the subdistrict of Kathu in the island’s interior, between Phuket Town and Patong Beach.

In case of rain, there is also a large covered area in the back.
