A great pizzeria in Kathu
Pizzeria Da Moreno is a casual Italian restaurant by the roadside of Kathu, near Lock Palm Golf Club. (In case you are unfamiliar with Phuket, Kathu is between Patong beach and Phuket Town). The bright and unpretentious design of the restaurant makes it instantly inviting, and the place has been popular with expats and locals for a long time. As you walk in, you can choose to sit al fresco by the roadside, in the indoor area near the bar, it in the aircon room. The open terrace in front of the restaurant is the most popular when the weather allows but can get busy after 7 pm.
The food
As the name implies, Da Moreno’s speciality is pizza, and the choice is vast, with several pages of pizza combinations to choose from on the menu. The Pizza is skilfully cooked in front of you on a wood fire. For two people, we ordered a delicious Bruschetta Caprese (130 baht), Parma and Mozzarella (370 baht), and a Pizza.
As we were not hungry enough to eat a full pizza each, we ordered a Mezzaluna (330 Baht), a margarita on one half and a cheese calzone on the other. We also ordered an excellent Salsiccia alla griglia (260 baht) from the daily menu, then ended with a delicious light Tiramisu.
Overall our dinner was excellent, perfect for a casual evening out with friends or family without spending much. The place is well known and very popular, so if you are around Kathu, treat yourself to great pizza! The team is friendly, but as the restaurant gets busy, the food can take some time to arrive.
