A Quiet Temple on Phuket East Coast
Wat Sapam Thammaram is a peaceful Buddhist temple on Phuket’s east coast, just opposite Koh Maphrao (Coconut Island) outside Phuket Town and not far from the famous Laem Him Restaurant. It’s close to Ko Kaeo and set on a gentle hill with views across Sapam Bay. This spot isn’t as busy as Phuket’s main attractions, so we often see only a few people when we visit. You can enjoy the temple’s relaxed setting and get a feel for local Buddhist traditions, all without any crowds.
The main temple stands on the hilltop. There’s a steep walkway up from the street and a flatter path on the side for a more relaxed walk. Around the grounds, you’ll find monks’ quarters on the hillside and a simple dining hall nearby. Many locals use Wat Sapam Thammaram for daily merit-making and meditation. This long-standing temple means a lot to families from the area, and we’ve noticed ceremonies throughout the year.
