Tours to Phuket Town and South Phuket
Phuket Town tours combine the island’s main cultural and scenic landmarks into a single half-day or full-day trip. They are a practical choice if you want to see the highlights without renting a car, especially since the sights are spread across the southern half of the island and connected by steep, winding roads.
What Most Tours Cover
A typical route starts with Wat Chalong, the most revered temple in Phuket, then continues to viewpoints like Karon Viewpoint (three bays visible from one spot) or the Windmill Viewpoint above Ya Nui Beach. Most tours include a stop at Promthep Cape at the island’s southern tip for photos. Note that the Big Buddha remains closed to the public, so tours that previously included it now spend more time at other stops.
The second half usually focuses on Old Phuket Town itself: a walk through the Sino-Portuguese streets along Thalang Road and Soi Romanee, a look at the colourful shophouse facades, and time to browse local shops or stop for coffee in one of the converted heritage buildings. Some tours add a visit to a Chinese shrine like Jui Tui or a quick walk through a morning market.
How to Choose
Half-day tours (4 to 5 hours) cover the main stops and work well if you want the afternoon free for the beach. Full-day tours add more viewpoints, a lunch stop, and extra time in Old Town. If you are staying in Patong, Kata, or Karon, the southern loop is a short transfer. Hotels further north will have a longer drive at the start. All tours include hotel pickup and drop-off. Private tours let you adjust the route or spend longer in Old Town, which is worth it if you want to explore the side streets at your own pace.
