ATV and Zipline Adventure Tours in Phuket

ATV rides and zipline courses are two of the most popular outdoor activities in Phuket beyond the beaches. Both take place inland, in the hilly jungle interior of the island that most visitors never see. If you have been on the beach for a few days and want something completely different, these are a good way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Zipline Tours in Phuket

Zipline courses in Phuket are set high in the rainforest canopy, typically 20 to 40 metres above the ground. You move between platforms built around large trees, connected by steel cables. The two best-known operators are Flying Hanuman and Hanuman World, both located in the forested hills between Kathu and Patong. Courses include a series of ziplines of varying lengths, sky bridges, abseil descents and spiral staircases wrapped around tree trunks.

No experience is needed. Staff fit you with a full harness and safety gear, and guides accompany each group through the course. The activity suits most ages and fitness levels. Children as young as 4 can participate on some courses, and the operators set weight limits (usually up to 120 kg) for safety. A full course takes about two to three hours. Most packages include hotel pickup and drop-off.

The setting is genuinely impressive. Once you are up in the canopy, the forest looks completely different from anything you see at beach level. Even if ziplines are not normally your thing, the views through the trees make it worthwhile.

ATV Tours in Phuket

ATV tours take you through jungle trails, rubber plantations and muddy tracks in the hills behind the beaches. Most operators offer a choice of routes and durations, from a quick 30-minute ride to a full half-day adventure. The trails pass through terrain you would never reach on foot or by car, including river crossings, steep climbs and stretches of red dirt track through dense vegetation.

Guides ride with the group and set the pace. Beginners get a short briefing and practice session before heading out. The ATVs are automatic, so there is no gear changing to worry about. Some operators offer single-seat and two-seat vehicles, which is useful if you want a child to ride along. Expect to get muddy, especially during the rainy season when the trails are at their most fun.

Several ATV operators combine the ride with a stop at a viewpoint or a visit to Big Buddha on Nakkerd Hill, which works well as a half-day outing. Hotel transfers are usually included in the price.

Good to Know

Both activities run year-round, including during the rainy season. In fact, ATV rides are often better after rain because the trails are muddier and more exciting. Ziplines operate in light rain but may pause during heavy storms. Wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty, and bring a change of shoes if you are doing ATVs. Closed-toe shoes are required for both activities. Most tours run in the morning or early afternoon, leaving your evenings free. Both make a good break from beach days, especially for families with older children or teenagers looking for something more active.
