About Koh Panyi

Koh Panyi is a floating Muslim fishing village in Phang Nga Bay, built almost entirely on stilts over the water. The village sits at the base of a massive limestone cliff and is home to around 1,500 people. It is one of the most visited stops on Phang Nga Bay day tours from Phuket.

The village has a mosque, a school, souvenir shops, and several seafood restaurants built over the water. Most tour groups stop here for lunch, which is usually a set Thai meal with a focus on fresh seafood. The restaurants can get crowded at peak times, but the food is generally decent.

Beyond the touristy main strip, the village has a more authentic side with residential walkways, small boats tied to the stilts, and a floating football pitch that became famous from a Thai TV commercial. Walking past the restaurants into the quieter areas gives a better sense of daily life in the community.

Koh Panyi is almost always visited as part of a Phang Nga Bay boat tour rather than on its own. For more about the area, see Phang Nga Bay.
