Malika Sky Bar at Kalima Resort

Malika Sky Bar is the rooftop restaurant and bar on the 6th floor of Kalima Resort, located between Patong Beach and Kamala Beach. The rooftop is surprisingly large with four distinct seating areas, including daybeds right on the edge with unobstructed sunset views. The bar opens at 5:30 pm daily and serves international and Thai dishes with live music in the evenings. I have been there several times over the years, and it remains one of the best rooftop bars in Phuket for sunset.

The rooftop offers a sweeping 180-degree panoramic view of the Andaman Sea. The sun sets over the sea on the right-hand side of the hotel (west, obviously), and to the left, customers can see the whole of Patong Bay. The views change as the sun goes down, the city lights start to appear, and the hotel is located quite high on the hillside; it is quite impressive.

Malika Sky Bar

Malika Sky Bar is divided into 4 areas, each serving a different purpose. The most attractive are the day beds surrounded by water. They are on the very edge of the rooftop and offer superb views of the sunset on the ocean. As these are the most popular, it is probably a good idea to call early to reserve one. Behind these are sofas, but these are not as popular as the views, which are a bit obstructed by the day beds in front.

Just a little further is the dining area, with many tables set to accommodate couples, families and groups of friends. From there, everyone can enjoy a nice 180-degree view of the Andaman Sea.

What to Expect

Malika Sky Bar opens at 5:30 pm and closes around midnight. The menu covers Thai and international dishes. Popular choices include the BBQ seafood tower (lobster, tiger prawns, blue crab), duck confit, and salmon in red curry. A live music duo plays most evenings. Budget around 800 to 1,000 baht per person for food and drinks.

Reservations are recommended for the daybeds, especially on weekends and during high season. The sofas behind the daybeds are less popular since the beds partially block the view. The main dining area works well for groups and families.

Insider Tips

Arrive by 5:30 pm if you want to catch the full sunset. The sun drops behind the headland to the right, and the light changes quickly. Parking at Kalima can be tight during high season. If you are staying elsewhere, a taxi or Grab is easier than navigating the steep hotel driveway.

Malika Sky Bar Through the Years

Kalima Resort opened in 2015, and Malika Sky Bar was part of the original concept. I remember when this hillside was still an undeveloped jungle. The hotel did a good job of using the elevation to create something that feels more dramatic than most Phuket rooftops. Unlike beach clubs that close at sunset, Malika keeps going with the city lights view over Patong Bay.
