Akoya Star Lounge at V Villas in Ao Yon Beach
Akoya Star Lounge is an upmarket rooftop bar and tapas at V Villas Phuket by MGallery in Ao Yon Beach, a secluded cove in the southeast of Phuket. The place is new and packed every evening with Instagram and selfie lovers, so you need to book before going. Before we go any further, you also need to know that there is a minimum spending of 2,354 baht per person, which makes it rather expensive.
Akoya Star Lounge Location
Akoya Star Lounge rooftop is 55 metres above the little-known Ao Yon Beach, and the view over the bay and the islands beyond is worth the long trip, roughly (25 km from Patong Beach or 45 45-minute drive. Ao Yon Beach has always been a secret beach in Phuket, mostly because it is on the east coast, where travellers rarely come, and the beach is not visible from the roadside.
The setting
Akoya Star Lounge’s location and setting are exceptional, and despite the high price, the place is full every evening. The rooftop is a vast wooden platform high above the bay, with a small infinity pool in the front where large day beds are surrounded by water. These daybeds are in the most demand, so you had better call early and specify that you want one of those. Small but comfortable sofas with small tables occupy the second row.
They appear less fancy at first but are more convenient for enjoying dinner. There is a third row of sofas in the back, behind a vast bar counter where the team will prepare your cocktails, but the view from there is much more limited. In a nutshell, the earlier you book, the more you will be seated at the front.
The place is very attractive and well-designed, so beyond being a great photo playground, Akoya is probably a great spot to propose to your loved one when in Phuket.
The food
We ordered a few tapas to go with our cocktails and sparkling wine: Premium Jamon Iberico Bellota (990 baht), Avocado Bruschetta (320 Baht) and Goong Yang Bai Cha Plu (Prawns with betel leaves, 280 baht). Note that, as often in hotels, the price on the menu does not include the service charge (10%) and VAT (7%), so the total of 3,660 baht will be 4,307 baht.
