About Jim Thompson

Jim Thompson House Museum in Bangkok

Jim Thompson, an American architect, came to Thailand in the 1940s and fell in love with its culture. He revived the country’s silk industry, making Thai silk famous worldwide. Thompson was passionate about art and collected traditional Thai artefacts, which he displayed in a stunning teak house he built in Bangkok in 1959. This house, now the Jim Thompson House Museum, showcases his collection and offers a glimpse into traditional Thai architecture. Thompson’s story took a mysterious turn in 1967 when he disappeared in Malaysia, never to be found, leaving behind a legacy tied to Thailand’s silk heritage.
