Hotels Close to the Beach in Bangtao
Bangtao and Layan beaches offer one of the best selections of beachfront hotels in Phuket. Unlike many other popular areas, quite a few hotels here have direct access to the sand: no roads to cross, no long walks. Some are high-end resorts, but there are also a few mid-range options with surprisingly good value, especially for travellers who want to stay right by the sea.
Bangtao Beach is long and relatively peaceful, with a mix of luxury resorts, family-friendly hotels, and smaller beachfront properties. Many of them are hidden among the trees, just steps from the beach. Layan, at the northern end of Bangtao, is even quieter and more natural, with just a handful of new hotels and a relaxed atmosphere that is still quite unique in Phuket.
Staying in this part of Phuket means you’ll have easy access to the beach, wide open space, and great sunset views. It’s a good alternative to the busier beaches, while still being close enough to restaurants, beach clubs, and shops in the Laguna and Cherngtalay areas.
Our list includes only hotels that are right on the beach or just behind the trees, ideal for a laid-back holiday with your feet in the sand.
Kora Beach Resort

Kora is a newer hotel on Layan Beach, at the quieter northern end of Bang Tao. The beach here is less developed than further south, which is either a plus or a minus depending on what you want. The hotel opened recently with 307 rooms, including family rooms and two-bedroom suites.
There’s a rooftop grill with sunset views, a spa, and four restaurants. The pools are good for kids. It’s about 30 minutes from the airport, which makes it one of the closer options if you’re arriving late. Layan itself doesn’t have much nightlife or shopping, so this works best if you’re happy staying put at the resort and beach.

SAii Laguna Phuket
SAii sits right on the sand with 300 meters of direct beach access, which is rare even for Bang Tao. The hotel was renovated recently, and the pool area shows it. Rooms come in different sizes, from standard to villas, all done in a modern Thai style. Three restaurants: Miss Olive Oyl for Mediterranean, Mr. Tomyum for Thai, and Locavore for breakfast buffet.
There’s also a coffee shop. The location is good if you want to walk to other Laguna hotels or use the shuttle boat between resorts. I’d recommend it for families or couples who want a proper beachfront stay without paying Banyan Tree prices. Read more

Amora Beach Resort

Amora reopened after a renovation and is located directly on Bang Tao Beach. It’s a big hotel, 264 rooms across three floors, with 13 different room types. The pools have water slides, which keep kids busy. There’s a kids’ club called AQUA that runs activities during the day.
Two restaurants cover Thai, international, and Mediterranean food. The rooms are modern, all with smart TVs and balconies. It’s close to Phuket Fantasea if that’s on your list. The beach access is the main draw here. Not the fanciest hotel on this stretch, but solid value for families who want to be on the sand without spending a fortune.

Arinara Beach Resort Phuket

Arinara has been around since 2003, last renovated in 2013. It’s a 4-star option with 202 rooms and direct beach access. The rooms range from studios to pool access units. Two pools, one for kids with a water slide. The beach club is a nice touch. There’s a games room with pool tables and board games, which helps on rainy days.
Four restaurants cover Italian, Thai, American, and international. It’s not as polished as the newer hotels, but the price reflects that. Good for families who want beachfront without paying 5-star rates. The location on Bang Tao is convenient for walking to nearby restaurants and bars.

Sunwing Bangtao Beach

Sunwing is designed for families. The rooms are more like apartments, with kitchenettes and desks, which helps if you’re staying more than a few nights. They have six pools, including one with water slides for kids. There’s a fitness centre and spa if you need a break from the children.
The main restaurant, La Tasca, does international food, and there’s a poolside bar for drinks and snacks. It’s right on the beach. The style is Scandinavian, which makes sense since it’s popular with European families. Not glamorous, but practical. Works well for a week-long stay with kids who need space to run around.

Best Western Premier Bangtao Beach Resort & Spa

Best Western Premier is a 4-star hotel with 180 rooms on Bang Tao Beach. The design leans tropical, with lots of greenery around the pools. Rooms have balconies or terraces, free WiFi, and satellite TV. Two restaurants, both doing European-style buffets. Two pools are set in the gardens.
There’s a spa and fitness centre. It’s beachfront, which is the main selling point at this price range. The hotel does weddings and has meeting rooms if you need them. It’s a reliable mid-range choice. Nothing exceptional, but nothing disappointing either. Good for travellers who want beach access and don’t need luxury extras.

Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket Resort
Dusit Thani is one of my favourites on Bang Tao. It’s right on the beach, and most rooms have sea views. The villas are set on two floors with small private pools on top, which is a nice touch. Four restaurants: Laguna Cafe for all-day Thai and international, Benjarong for fine Thai dining, La Trattoria for Italian, and Casuarina for casual beachfront meals.
The spa is good. Water sports are available, sailing and windsurfing mostly. Get an ocean view or beachfront room if you can; they’re not much more expensive, and the view is worth it. Reasonable prices for what you get. Works for couples and families alike. Read more

Angsana Laguna Phuket
Angsana is huge, with over 400 rooms built around a lagoon. The beach access is through Xana Beach Club, which has a pool on the sand and oversized sofas. That’s the highlight. Four restaurants: Azura for Italian, Market Place for breakfast buffets, Baan Talay for Thai and seafood, and Xana for casual beach food.
The hotel used to be a Sheraton and shows its age in places, but the size means there’s always something to do. Good for families who want pools with slides and a big kids club. You can take the shuttle boat to other Laguna hotels for dinner. Prices are higher than some neighbours, but the beach club access makes up for it. Read more

Movenpick Resort Bangtao Beach

Movenpick is a 5-star hotel within walking distance of the beach and Laguna Golf. The rooms overlook either gardens or the sea. Two pools, a spa, and a tour desk if you want help arranging trips. Two restaurants on site. The style is modern and comfortable, nothing too flashy.
It’s a bit further from the main beach action than some of the Laguna hotels, but that also means it’s quieter. Swiss brand, so the service standards are consistent. Works for couples or families who want a relaxed base without the crowds of the bigger resorts. Five-minute walk to Laguna Beach.
