Chinese Restaurant in Phuket Town
Yue Chinese Restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, just across from the Surin Circle clock tower in the old town. The name Yue means “happiness” in Chinese, and the restaurant was designed to reflect both Phuket’s Peranakan heritage and classical Chinese culture. The interior draws on the island’s tin mining past, with rock and metal elements woven into the decor alongside dragon-inspired design details that nod to the dragon dances seen at Phuket’s festivals. It seats 45 in the main dining room and has three private rooms for larger gatherings.

The kitchen is led by Chef Kenny Chang, who comes from a Thai-Chinese family and has spent over 20 years cooking Cantonese cuisine for Shangri-La and Marriott hotels. He is joined by dim sum specialist Chef Lee Kuan Foo, and together they turn out handcrafted dim sum and a focused Cantonese menu using both imported ingredients and fresh local produce. The signature dishes include the original Peking duck, Sichuan lobster and emerald crab meat soup. The best approach is to pick dishes marked as “chef’s recommendation” on the menu. It is a chance to step away from the usual classics and try something you would not normally order, and we were glad we did.

The dim sum is the real draw for many locals. In Thailand, Sunday dim sum is a tradition for Chinese families, and this hotel has long been a favourite gathering spot. Yue offers an all-you-can-eat dim sum option that makes it easy to try a wide selection without overthinking the order.

We came for dinner first, then returned two days later for dim sum. Both meals were excellent, with attentive service from a team that clearly takes pride in the restaurant. For Cantonese food in Phuket Town, Yue is one of the best choices on the island.
