An Amazing Restaurant at Intercontinental Phuket Resort
A dinner at Hom Restaurant at Intercontinental Phuket Resort in Kamala Beach is an experience we’ll remember for a long time. The name ‘Intercontinental’ itself already promises luxury, and from the moment we stepped into the hotel, we could tell this place was something special. As soon as we walked through the lobby, our eyes were instantly attracted by the iconic white Thai building proudly standing against the hillside—it’s absolutely breathtaking. And if you’re lucky as we were, you might even catch the full moon rising behind it.
As we walked toward the restaurant at the back of the hotel, we took time to appreciate the design and architecture of the hotel and the restaurant. Every detail has been carefully crafted, and every line of the path seemed to lead us to that exquisite building, creating a unique atmosphere that prepares your mind for that memorable dinner. If you’re looking to impress someone, this might just be the best spot in Thailand! Here’s a tip: don’t say anything beforehand to your loved ones—let it be a surprise and watch their face light up when they see it!
The restaurant interior is also superb and quite minimalist, with Thai patterned tiles, tall columns supporting high ceilings and very high curtains all around. The team welcomed us in a friendly and informal way, which made us instantly feel relaxed and at home. There are only a few tables in the dining room, so all guests have plenty of privacy. We were invited to sit at our table, where our 10-course menu was waiting, together with an attractive wine-pairing list.
The Dinner
Hom Restaurant focuses on bringing out incredible flavors through ancient fermentation techniques, using only the freshest ingredients from Phuket. The chefs carefully select local produce and proteins, then apply fermentation methods to enhance and elevate their natural flavors. This close connection between the island’s farms and the kitchen ensures every dish is rooted in the best that Phuket has to offer, while still respecting the nature of each ingredient.
Often, with fine cuisine, the menu is very short and minimalist. It won’t tell you much about what you are about to experience. This is where the magic begins: forget everything you know and let the chef surprise you! Even if you read names such as Duck and its Own Wing, forget everything you know and let the chef blow your mind.
We started with beautifully presented appetizers. It is always difficult to describe such an experience. With each dish, so much is happening, between the presentation, the texture, and the several delicate tastes your mouth will experience with every single bite. It truly is a fantastic moment.
We appreciated that the chef or the waiter bringing each dish to our table described each dish in a concise manner, which is something we value a lot. Each dish came with an excellent wine, and the sommelier also described the origin, the tones and the uniqueness of each wine. All the wines were bio-dynamic organic wines.
The dinner was a 10-course treat with 6 wine pairings, and while the menu was on our table, the names did not prepare us for the dish itself but rather triggered our curiosity and generated fun conversation at the table:
- Edible Clam, with a Pinot Noir Meunier from Champagne in France (Marie Copinet Nos pas dans…la Terre Complantee Brut Nature)
- Oyster, whey and Sato
- Snail Foam with a Dafni from Greece (Psarades Dafni, Domaine Lyrarakis)
- North Thailand Leaf
- Bouquet of Kallas with a Godello from Galicia in Spain (Gaba do Xil Blanco O Barreiro)
- Mussel
- Deer Salad with a Xinomavro from Greece (Kir Yianni, Naoussa, Cuvee Village)
- Duck and its Own Wing
- Edible Rock with a Moscato from Italy (Vienni Moscato D’Asti)
- Butterfly of Mango and Sticky Rice with a Gewurztraminer from Spain (Enate Somontano)
The balance between the dishes and the wines was perfect, and we ended the two-hour dinner with a big, satisfied smile. Since this was a special theme dinner, we promised ourselves we would go back in a couple of weeks to experience the original menu.
