A 4-Star Family Resort in Kata Beach
Kata Palm is a big 4-star resort with 276 rooms spread across tropical gardens in central Kata. The pools are the main reason people come here: two lagoon-style pools that wind through the property like a lazy river, plus a rooftop pool with views. It’s a 10-minute walk to the beach, which is the trade-off. But for families who care more about pools than sand, this place works really well.

Location

Kata Palm is in central Kata, set back from the beach on the main road. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the sand, flat all the way through the centre of town. The resort runs a free shuttle a few times a day and keeps loungers reserved on the beach for hotel guests, though you should book those in advance.
Convenience stores, massage shops, and restaurants are right outside. Kata Night Market is an easy walk south along the main road.
The Rooms

276 rooms across several buildings. The style is traditional Thai with carved teak furniture and warm wood tones throughout. Superior rooms are 36 sqm. Deluxe and Pool Access rooms are 45 sqm.
The newer Royal Blue Wing has the freshest rooms and its own rooftop pool. A Grand Deluxe category launched in November 2025. If you want something that feels more modern, ask for this wing.
Pool Access rooms on the ground floor open directly onto the lagoon pool from a private terrace. Popular with families, and for good reason. Kids under 12 need to be supervised in the pool area.
The Pools

The pools are the best part. Two large lagoon pools wind through the gardens with bridges, waterfalls, and islands. They feel like a lazy river, great for floating around. Kids love it. The rooftop pool on the Royal Blue Wing is quieter, with a bar and views over Kata and the surrounding hills.
Three separate kids’ pools, two with shade. Three pool bars serve drinks and snacks. Pool hours are 7 am to 7 pm.
Restaurant and Dining

Three restaurants on site. Palm Leaf handles breakfast, a big buffet with Thai and Western options from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. Good variety, and most room rates include it.
Angkor Restaurant does poolside lunch. The Palm Restaurant covers dinner. For dinner, I’d eat outside though. Plenty of Thai restaurants and street food within a five-minute walk.
Who Should Stay Here

Families who want a proper resort feel with great pools and don’t mind a short walk to the beach. The lagoon pools, kids’ pools, and pool access rooms make this one of the better family setups in Kata without paying 5-star prices. Not ideal if you want beachfront or a supervised kids club. But if your kids are happy in a pool all day, they’ll be happy here.
What’s Great For Kids

The kids’ room and playground operate from 8 am to 8 pm, but they are unsupervised. If you want someone to watch your children, you’ll need to arrange babysitting separately. Three kids’ pools with shade coverage on two of them. Two swim-up bars serve food, drinks, and ice cream.
The Family Room fits 2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults and 1 child. It has one main bed plus a bunk bed, with a balcony overlooking the pools. There’s also a Family room without a balcony at 40 sqm. Deluxe Pool Access rooms at 45 sqm open directly onto the lagoon pool from a private terrace. Connecting rooms available on request.
Good for: Families who don’t need childcare but want excellent pool facilities and dedicated family room layouts.
