Bird For You is a garden cafe in Thalang, north of Phuket Town and 9 km south of Phuket Airport, with a walk-in bird enclosure, a turtle area, and a kitchen run by the owners who catch their own fish. The setting is decorated with colourful bunting, flower windmills, a fountain, and bubble machines. Very photogenic and genuinely charming. We were the only foreigners that day, which is always a good sign.
The bird enclosure
The main enclosure is surprisingly large. Around 30 small parrots live inside, plus one big white parrot and a peacock. Pay 40 baht per bag of bird food at the entrance.
The parrots are bold. One landed on my shoulder and started picking at my clothes. Another gave my finger a firm bite (didn’t break the skin, but enough to feel it). All part of the experience. Parents should stay close to young kids and ask staff for help if the birds get too much.
Outside the main enclosure there are more cages with peacocks and Java sparrows. There is also a small turtle area with 4 turtles hiding in the shade. Easy to miss, so look out for it. Allow about 1.5 hours between eating and walking around the animals.
The food
Fresh fish caught by the owners themselves. The menu includes fish and chips, fish burger, grilled fish salad, fish steak, and a Thai sashimi platter (6 types for 590 baht). Some unique local dishes you won’t find elsewhere. Nicely presented.
The signature fish and chips have quite a few small bones. Fine for adults, but supervise young kids carefully.
Six dishes, two drinks, one basket, and two bags of bird food came to 1,450 baht for 3 adults and 1 toddler. Excellent value for what you get.
How Bird For You compares to other family spots
Phuket has bird parks and child-friendly cafes, but few places combine both at this price. The bird parks charge entry fees in the hundreds of baht and have no real food. The cafes with playgrounds rarely have animals. Bird For You sits in the middle. The bird food bag at 40 baht is the only entry cost, and the kitchen is the main reason to come back.
