A 3-Star Hotel in Karon Beach

Baan Sailom is a small 3-star hotel with only 22 rooms, right across the road from Karon Beach. I keep recommending it because there’s nothing cheaper this close to the sand in Karon. It’s not new, it’s not fancy, and the pool is small. But you cross the street, and you’re on the beach. For the price, that’s hard to beat.

Location

Baan Sailom is on Patak Road. Walk out, cross the road, and you’re on three kilometres of sand. Takes two minutes. Be careful at the crossing, motorbikes don’t always stop.

A 7-Eleven is two minutes away. Restaurants and massage shops line the road in both directions. Dino Park mini golf is about 400 metres south.

The Rooms

The hotel opened in 2010 and was last renovated in 2013. You can tell. Rooms are clean but dated, especially the bathrooms. Every room has air conditioning, a 52-inch TV, a fridge, a coffee maker, and a rainfall shower. Most have a balcony.

Superior rooms are 20 sqm with a queen bed. Deluxe rooms are 24 sqm with a queen and a single, which works for a small family. Top-floor rooms get sea views. One thing to know: a drainage canal runs along one side of the hotel. Ask for a room facing the pool or the road. Rooms near that canal smell bad when it’s hot.

The Pool and Facilities

One small outdoor pool in a garden with palm trees. Nothing special, but it does the job after a beach day. Pool hours are 8 am to 8 pm.

The hotel lends out free beach towels, kids’ toys, and inflatable floats. That’s a nice touch at this price. The owner is hands-on and gets mentioned by name in reviews. Reception can be unstaffed at times, so check the restaurant if you need help.

Restaurant and Dining

The restaurant serves Thai and international food. Hotel guests get a 15% discount. Breakfast is extra, around 250 Baht for adults and 150 Baht for children. It’s a mix of buffet and cooked-to-order, and reviews rate it well.

For dinner, walk outside. Portosino and Ocean Rhyme are both within five minutes and are better than eating at the hotel every night.

Who Should Stay Here

Couples and families who want the cheapest option close to the beach. Don’t expect a resort. This is a small, dated hotel where the location does the heavy lifting. If you need pools, a kids club, or modern rooms, Centara Karon is a better bet but costs more. If you just want a clean room two minutes from the sand with a helpful owner, Baan Sailom does that well.

What’s Great For Kids

No kids’ club and no children’s programme. Just one outdoor pool with sun loungers. But the hotel lends out free beach toys, floats, and towels, which saves you from buying all that stuff at the beach shops.

The Deluxe Family Room has a queen bed and a single bed, enough for two adults and one child. Free cribs on request. Extra beds cost 550 Baht per day. Rooms have air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a fridge, and a balcony or terrace.

The beach is two minutes away, and Karon has calm water most of the high season. Plenty of 7-Elevens nearby for snacks and nappies. Dino Park mini golf is a short walk south.

Good for: Budget families wanting beach access with free beach toys and equipment included.
