Phuket’s Hidden Speakeasy Gem
Shhh is one of Phuket’s best-kept secrets, and finding it is half the fun. It’s on Thalang Road in Old Town, right where the famous Sunday Walking Street Market is. Thousands of people walk past the entrance every week without knowing it’s there. I was actively looking for it and still couldn’t find it. Had to ask at the shop next door, Cabana Co.
The bar calls itself Phuket’s premier speakeasy. It combines a secret entrance, some tech wizardry, and well-made cocktails in a dark underground setting.
The Ultimate Hidden Bar Experience
Getting into Shhh is an adventure. The entrance looks like a key-cutting shop on Thalang Road. Look for a door covered in keys. Walk through what seems to be a working key shop, then head upstairs. I circled the block twice before I spotted it. Secrecy level? Solid 10 out of 10.
Award-Winning Recognition
The bar has picked up some serious recognition. Tatler Thailand named it one of the Best 20 Bars for 2025. It holds a perfect 5.0 on TripAdvisor and ranks #10 among 31 bars in Phuket Town. They also claim to be the only “World of Cocktail & Immersive Art Experience” in Phuket.
Premium Pricing Structure
Cocktails run from 250 to 390 Baht. That’s on the higher end for Phuket, but you’re paying for the experience. A few options we tried:
- S-007 costs 350 Baht. It’s tea-based with a mild, sweet flavour. Easy to drink.
- S-006 is 390 Baht. Rum with grape notes. Drier than the others.
- N.013 is their signature Phuket tribute. Vodka, cocoa husk, Chambord, sake, kombucha, coconut-bergamot cordial, jackfruit, and tonic. Sounds complicated, but it works.
- Mocktails are 250 Baht if you’re not drinking.
The menu has 12 signature cocktails, all with codes instead of names. Takes a minute to figure out what you’re ordering.
Immersive Technology Experience
The walls are covered in floor-to-ceiling projections. AI-animated scenes of famous landmarks from around the world rotate through the night. The room is dark, a bit futuristic. The building itself is old Sino-Portuguese architecture, so there’s an interesting contrast between the colonial bones and the modern tech.
Shhh works well for anyone looking for something different from the usual beach bar scene. The prices are higher than average, but the hidden entrance and the whole production make it worth checking out at least once.
