Rock Salt Restaurant Review
Rock Salt is an upmarket restaurant built on the rocky end of the beautiful Nai Harn Beach, south of Phuket. The view is fantastic, the Mediterranean cuisine is excellent, and the breeze flowing through the restaurant makes it the perfect spot for a meal or even for a short break with a drink. Since Rock Salt is one of The Nai Harn‘s restaurants located across the street, the food is rather expensive as you can expect. The price is high, but if you plan to save one special dinner with a superb setting and amazing views to impress someone during your holiday, this might be the place.
The restaurant is an alfresco terrace with wooden pillars supporting a light cover to protect guests from the sun and eventual rain. This scenic open-air design creates a very relaxing atmosphere, and Rock Salt is perfect for an easy-going lunch, a romantic dinner or even just a drink during the day.
The restaurant opens for breakfast from 7 am to 10 am, then from 12.30 pm to 10 pm and the last order at 9.30 pm. The staff is part of the 5-star resort so you know you can expect high-level service, polite and attentive, which makes the experience even more special.
The restaurant is at the west end of the beautiful crescent of Nai Harn Beach, popular with locals and a few tourists, but thankfully, not as busy as Patong, Kata or Karon Beach. The beach is vast with soft white sand, and the water during the high season is incredibly clear. What makes Rock Salt unique is that it is built on the rocky end; it is the only restaurant so close to the beach.
The food at Rock Salt is mostly Mediterranean, with a good focus on seafood. The Fine de Claires oysters were surprisingly good (half a dozen 750 baht). It was a good surprise because while you can easily find Fines de Claire in Thailand, they often are below expectations. The moules marinieres, from Australia (600 baht) were also excellent, served with French Fries. You can also try the steamed yellow curry mussels also at 600 baht.
The menu also has pizzas starting at 395 baht, grilled lamb at 650 baht, pasta from 520 baht, and sea bass steak at 720 baht. Thai food is also available: Phad Thai Goong at 650 baht (with big white prawns), Khao Phad at 350 baht. In addition to the printed menu, there are also daily specials worth checking on the blackboard. Their excellent wine list is also worth mentioning, with a few selections served by the glass, which is always welcome when you don’t plan to order a bottle.
