Burnt Butter Toast And Ice Cream In Old Phuket Town
Phuketique Coffee Bar built is famous for one dish: thick toast soaked in butter and sugar, fried until the edges turn dark and crisp, then crowned with a melting scoop of Hokkaido ice cream. That single plate is what draws the queue to the blue and yellow shophouse every afternoon. You will find it on the fountain circle, at the Ranong Road end of Old Phuket Town. I had walked past this corner for years before the smell of caramelised butter finally pulled me in.
Where is Phuketique?

Phuketique is easy to find. It sits right on the fountain circle where several of the old streets meet, so you spot the blue corner from a distance. If you are walking the old town from Thalang Road or Soi Romanee, it is a short stroll south to the fountain. The counter faces the street, which means you often see the queue before you see the sign. Street parking nearby is limited, so it is simpler to arrive on foot while exploring the old town.
The Coffee Shop

The look is bright yellow and deep blue, inside and out. A few tables run along the back wall under a row of blue and white paintings, with bar stools at the street counter. Most of the action happens at the front, where the staff fry each piece of toast in butter one pan at a time. The room is small and gets tight when the queue builds, so it works best as a quick sweet stop rather than a long sit-down. Come earlier in the day if you want a seat without the wait.
About the Food and the Drinks

The signature dish is the burnt butter toast, an original the shop has served since 2018. A thick slice of bread is soaked in butter and sugar, fried until the outside turns crisp and golden, then topped with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of sauce. Most versions are 220 baht, with your pick of ice cream: Hokkaido milk, Madagascar vanilla, honeycomb toffee, Belgian dark chocolate or white chocolate. The Biscoff speculoos toast with fresh milk ice cream is the one most people line up for, at 270 baht. Other toppings include crunchy Ovomaltine and Nutella with banana, and an extra scoop is 80 baht. One thing to remember, because it really took me by surprise: the toasts are huge, and with the ice cream on top and all the toppings, it is great to share!

Beyond the toast, there is a full drinks list. Hot coffee runs from 90 baht for an espresso or Americano up to 120 baht for a caramel macchiato, made on a proper espresso machine. The Phuket-style iced coffee and the Thai tea slushie start at 60 baht. There is also fresh Phuket pineapple juice, iced fruit teas, pots of hot tea and a range of sodas. The toast is still the reason to come.
