Patong Beach Photo Gallery
Patong Beach is the busiest and most popular beach in Phuket. The beach stretches about 3 kilometres along the west coast, with a wide strip of sand backed by a dense grid of hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops. It is the centre of tourism on the island, and the energy here is unlike anywhere else in Phuket.
During the day, the beach is lined with sunbeds and umbrellas. Jet skis, parasailing, and banana boats operate along the southern half. The northern end tends to be a bit quieter. At night, Bangla Road is the main nightlife strip, full of bars, clubs, and street performers.
Patong is not the prettiest beach on the island, but it is by far the most convenient. Everything is within walking distance, from Jungceylon Shopping Mall to the best restaurants in Patong.
I first visited Patong in 1994 and have photographed it through every stage of its transformation. The photos in this gallery show Patong across different years, from the beach by day to the nightlife after dark. All photos are my own. For the full travel guide, see Patong Beach.
