A Hindu Temple in Rawai
Lord Shrimant Ganpati Bappa Devalai is a Hindu temple dedicated to Ganesha set in Rawai Beach near Rawai Park. This intricately designed Phuket temple is a replica of the century-old Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in Pune, India. Opened in late 2024 after nearly 2 years of building, the temple welcomes visitors and devotees daily from 7 am to 8 pm.
The large Ganesha statue sits in the temple’s main hall, where devotees can bring offerings. The idol of Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati, along with a Shivling, idols of Goddess Siddhi and Buddhi, Lord Shiva and Parvati, and other sacred artefacts, was taken to Phuket by a 30-day journey by sea from Pune to Thailand, as reported by the Pune Pulse. All of these sacred items were crafted by artisans in Pune.
The temple is just a short walk inland from the beach behind the Tops supermarket. It’s free to enter, but visitors are welcome to buy flowers, sweets, and coconut at the shop on-site to give as an offering to Ganesha. There’s also a shop selling Ganesha statues and other Hindu deity items.
Visitors should note that photography is not permitted inside the temple, and no shorts, skimpy tops or black clothing should be worn inside the temple. Similar to Thai temples, shoes must be removed before entering.
Lord Shrimant Ganpati Bappa Devalai is found in the heart of Rawai Beach, and if visiting the temple, it’s easy to access other Rawai attractions, including its wonderful seafront restaurants, Rawai Park, and the longtail boats where trips to nearby islands could be arranged. Car and motorbike parking is available.
