A Weekend at Angsana Laguna Phuket

Angsana Laguna Phuket is a vast hotel on Bangtao Beach, a beautiful location on the west coast of Phuket. With more than 300 rooms, lofts and suites, the hotel is immense, and most of the bedrooms offer lake or pool views. There is beach access at the front, but no rooms with beach views. The resort will please travellers who plan to spend most of their time on the beach andin  the neighbourhood, with many facilities and outlets within the hotel. With a large Kid’s Club and dedicated pools, it will please families and kids a lot.

Angsana Laguna Phuket used to be a Sheraton and lost a bit of its shine. It is immense and built on three floors. It is a little intimidating at first and takes some time to find your way, but you will soon get used to the geography. There is quite a distance between the reception and the beach, and you can walk through the garden or use the long covered path that runs in case of rain.

The Rooms

Eight room types from the 371 rooms are available, and we booked a superior room with a lagoon view. The bedroom is large and very comfortable, with a big desk, plenty of plugs, and a convenient working station. You can also relax or work on your oversized L-shaped sofa with a TV or on your balcony with a partial lagoon view. The large bathroom has a big square bathtub that takes a long time to fill, plus all the amenities you can expect from a 5-star resort.

Apart from the two free water bottles, the minibar is empty, so you will have to get your supply at the next 7-11. There is a water boiler and an espresso machine with four capsules (two coffee and two decaf).

Angsana Laguna Phuket Restaurants

At regular times, there are three main restaurants for guests to take their meals. As the hotel is a little far from the city centre, there is a high chance you will eat at one of these.

Market Place is all-day dining, where you will probably enjoy all your breakfast.
Baan Talay is a Thai restaurant in a beautiful Thai house by the beach.
Bodega is an Italian Steakhouse.

Xana Beach Club

Xana Beach Club is the highlight of the hotel. The club is open from 11 am to 10 pm, and guests can enjoy oversized sofas placed on the sand, plus a large pool built on the beach. The Beach of Bang Tao

As you can expect, the beach of Bang Tao is the most attractive feature of the hotel. The sand is soft and pale, the water warm all year round and blue during the high season. The hotel provides sofas and loungers with umbrellas to the guests.

The Angsana Spa is an award-winning spa with a vast list of massages, facials, pedicures, manicures and signature treatments; selecting the right one can be intimidating. Friendly and helpful therapists will be delighted to advise and assist you.

What’s Great For Kids

Treehouse Kids Club is the standout feature here. The two-storey structure has four interconnected zones with covered walkways. Inside, there’s a large climbing frame with netting and slides, arts and crafts tables, a library, storytelling area, and an internet corner. Outside there are three playgrounds for different age groups, plus a covered play area with swings and slides. A large outdoor projector shows films in the evenings.

Ages 4-12 are fully supervised from 9 am to 6 pm daily. Children aged 1-3 can attend with a parent or babysitter. There’s a separate Teens Club for ages 13-16 with PlayStation, Wii, and Xbox. The club runs over 60 activities, including nature walks, Thai dancing, coconut leaf folding, bracelet making, t-shirt decorating, and mini sports. The Treehouse Café serves kid-friendly meals so children can eat lunch at the club.

The 323m pool is genuinely impressive. There’s also a 300m free-form family pool with a real sand beach area within the complex. Multiple kids’ pool areas throughout. Room options include standard lagoon rooms, Two-Bedroom Island Suites, and private pool options. The Two-Bedroom Pool Suite comes with a private pool, yard, outdoor play area, and separate living spaces.

Beach View and Lagoon View versions are available. Three-Bedroom Pool Suites work for larger families. Direct beachfront access to Bang Tao Beach. Seven dining outlets plus two bars, all with kids’ menus. Good for: Families who want the best kids club facilities in Phuket with extensive activities and proper supervision.

Summary

Angsana is the kind of hotel where you could spend a whole week without leaving. The beach is right there, Xana keeps things interesting, and there are enough restaurants that you won’t get bored. It’s showing its age a bit; the building used to be a Sheraton, and you can tell it’s been around. But for families, especially, the size is actually a plus. Kids have space to run around, the pools have sliders, and the kids’ club is big enough that they’ll want to go back. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want something intimate or boutique. But if you want a proper resort holiday on a good beach with plenty to do on site, it does the job.
