Thai Restaurant in Nai Yang Beach
Sea Almond is a beachfront restaurant on Nai Yang Beach, one of the very few places in Phuket where you actually eat on the sand with your feet in it. The restaurant sits right in the middle of the beach, under the shade of large sea almond trees (that is where the name comes from). It serves decent Thai food, seafood, and a few Western dishes, and also has a surprisingly good craft beer selection. I have been stopping there for many years, and it is still hard to beat such a setting.
Location
Sea Almond is easy to find. It is right on Nai Yang Beach, about 10 minutes south of Phuket Airport. The restaurant has a covered indoor area built with bamboo and a thatched roof, but the best seats are the tables set up directly on the sand, under large umbrellas. In the evening, the tables move a bit further onto the beach, giving you a clear view of the sunset over the Andaman Sea. On a clear day, you can see the silhouettes of boats anchored offshore.
Atmosphere
Sea Almond is the kind of place where you take off your shoes and relax. The setting is casual. White plastic chairs, tablecloths with a polka dot pattern, and the sound of waves a few metres away. It is not fancy, but that is the whole point. The staff are sometimes a bit distracted but friendly, and the overall vibe is relaxed and welcoming. At sunset, Sea Almond really comes alive. The light turns golden, the sky goes pink, and you are sitting right there on the beach with a cold drink. It is one of those Phuket moments that are hard to forget.
About the Food
The menu at Sea Almond covers a wide range of Thai classics and some Western options. Popular dishes include fried rice topped with a fried egg, Massaman curry, pad Thai, and steamed fish with chilli lime sauce. They also serve fresh seafood, spring rolls, and pineapple fried rice. The craft beer board behind the bar lists local and imported IPAs and ales, which is unusual for a beach restaurant. They accept credit cards and are open from 10:30 am to 10 pm.
