Portosino is the main restaurant at Avista Grande Phuket Karon, an MGallery property on the hillside above Karon Beach. We’ve eaten here several times, and the breakfast buffet alone is worth a visit. The restaurant handles Thai, Indian and international dishes, which sounds scattered but actually works.
The design references Phuket’s tin mining history. Suspended rail tracks hang from the ceiling, mine-style lamps cast warm light, and metal details appear throughout. It’s more interesting than the generic hotel restaurant look you get elsewhere. Tables in the alcoves overlooking the swimming pool are the best spots, though you’ll want to book those ahead.
Thai dishes are solid. Pad Thai, green curry, tom yum, all the classics done properly. The surprise is the Indian food. Chef Rana’s lamb rogan josh gets mentioned constantly in reviews, and for good reason. Tender, well-spiced, authentic. If you’re staying at other Karon hotels and craving proper Indian, this is where to come.
Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:30 am with a good spread. French pastries, local items like Thai iced tea and Chinese doughnuts (yau char kway), egg stations, and tropical fruit. They use at least 50% locally sourced products, which shows in the freshness.
The restaurant also runs Thai cooking classes. Around 1,000 Baht per person gets you a session with Chef Un or Chef Pang, learning three dishes from scratch. Book 24 hours ahead. Non-hotel guests are welcome, though reservations help for dinner.
