Wat Cherngtalay (เธงเธฑเธเนเธเธดเธเธเธฐเนเธฅ), also known historically as Wat Tin Le (เธงเธฑเธเธเธตเธเนเธฅ), is a Buddhist temple located in the Cherngtalay subdistrict of Thalang District, near Bang Tao Beach. The temple is situated on Si Sunthon Road and serves as a spiritual centre for the local community. The temple grounds feature a prominent ordination hall (ubosot), a sermon hall, monk residences, and a lotus-shaped pagoda enshrining the relics of Luang Por Plod, a revered former abbot. The temple is known for its peaceful atmosphere and traditional Thai architecture.โ
Established on April 5, 1917, Wat Cherngtalay was founded by Phra Khru Chalopmakhun (Phlab Inthasuwanno) with the support of local villagers. The temple received its royal charter on February 14, 1994. Luang Por Plod, who served as abbot from 1852 to 1886, was instrumental in the templeโs development and was renowned for his strict adherence to Dharma and mastery of magical knowledge. His relics are enshrined in a lotus-shaped pagoda in front of the chapel. Subsequent abbots continued to expand the templeโs facilities, including the construction of a kitchen, Dharma hall, dining hall, and an ordination hall. The temple also established a school within its grounds, which evolved into Ban Cherngtalay School. Today, Wat Cherngtalay continues to play a vital role in the local community, offering religious services, education, and cultural preservation. โ
