Koh Kudu Yai in Phang Nga Bay

A Small Island with an Iconic Scenery

Koh Kudu Yai is one of those stops in Phang Nga Bay that catches you off guard. We’ve done this trip many times, and this little island remains a favourite. It’s not on every tour itinerary, which keeps it quieter than places like James Bond Island. The beach is tiny, maybe 50 metres of sand, but what a setting.

Three limestone pinnacles rise straight out of the water just offshore. They’re the island’s signature view, visible from the beach through a frame of overhanging branches. Speedboats anchor right on the sand, and you step off into knee-deep water.

What to Expect

The sand here is soft. Really soft. Your feet sink in with each step. There’s shade along the edges where trees lean over the beach, which helps because there’s nothing else here. No shops. No toilets. No vendors. Bring water and snacks if your tour doesn’t provide them.

Most tours give you 30 minutes to an hour. Enough time to swim, take photos, and lie on the sand staring at those rocks. The water inside the bay is calm and warm. Good for swimming, though not much for snorkelling.

Getting There

Koh Kudu Yai sits at the northern tip of Koh Yao Noi, about 3 kilometres offshore. If you’re staying at Paradise Koh Yao Resort, you can kayak there in 15 minutes. They rent kayaks for around 200 to 300 Baht for four hours. Aim for high tide.

From Phuket, you’ll need a day trip that specifically includes this stop. Not all Phang Nga Bay tours come here. Ask before booking. The island falls within Ao Phang Nga National Park, so the 300 Baht entrance fee applies. Most tours include this in their price.

Is It Worth the Stop?

Yes. It won’t take long. You’re not going to spend half a day here like you might at a bigger beach. But for pure scenery in a quiet spot, Koh Kudu Yai beats most places in the bay. One visitor called it a mix between Maya Bay and James Bond Island without the crowds. That’s about right.
