Surin Beach Photo Gallery
Surin Beach is a short, scenic beach on Phuket’s west coast, just north of Kamala. The beach is about 700 metres long, framed by rocky headlands on both sides and backed by a line of tall casuarina trees that provide natural shade.
Surin used to be known for its beach clubs and a lively daytime scene, but most of those were removed several years ago when authorities cleared the beachfront. Today, it is a much quieter beach. There are no sunbeds for rent, and the sand is mostly open. A few restaurants operate on the road above the beach, but the seafront itself is kept clean and natural.
The water at Surin is clear and inviting during the high season, though the waves can get strong during the monsoon months. The beach drops off quite steeply, so it is better suited for confident swimmers.
I have been photographing Surin Beach since the late 1990s, and some of the photos in this gallery show the beach as it looked before the beach clubs were removed. The contrast with how it looks today is striking. All photos are my own. For the full travel guide, see Surin Beach.
