Phuket Weather Forecast
After living in Phuket for 30 years, here is what I learned: every year is different, every week is different, and no one can truly predict what the weather will be in any given month. January, February and March are the safe bet for blue skies, but beyond that, anything can happen. Some rainy seasons are beautiful with weeks of sunshine, and the next year it rains twice as much. The
two seasons are the high season from December to April and the rainy season from May to November, but those are broad guidelines, not guarantees.
What is important to know is that weather forecasts love to be dramatic. If there is a bit of rain on one corner of the island, the forecast will predict rain for three days. It can be pouring in Patong while Kata Beach is bone dry, just 10 minutes away. Take the numbers below with a pinch of salt.

How to Read the Phuket Forecast
There are two types of rain in Phuket, and the difference matters.
The first is the short, heavy tropical shower. It builds up in the afternoon, pours hard for 20 to 40 minutes, and stops. The sky clears, everything smells fresh, and life carries on. This kind of rain is a good excuse for a coffee or a cold drink somewhere with a view. It is actually entertaining to watch. During the rainy season, this is what happens most days. Mornings are frequently clear, so beach time, island hopping and boat tours are best planned for the morning.
The second type is the “bad luck week.” It pours almost nonstop for several days, sometimes a full week. These are not fun, but the land and trees need water. No one will predict when these happen, so you just hope for the best. If you are unlucky enough to hit one, we have a full guide on the best things to do in Phuket when it rains.
Temperature stays between 25°C and 34°C all year round, so the number on the forecast is rarely the deciding factor. What matters is rain timing, and for that, the forecast is only a rough guide.
