A 1920s speakeasy gastropub and jazz lounge in Bang Tao Beach
There’s a door on Lagoon Road in Bang Tao that doesn’t look like much from the outside. Step through it, and you’re somewhere else entirely: crimson velvet, candlelight, the low growl of a double bass warming up in the corner. Welcome to Moonshine Phuket, the island’s only true speakeasy-style bar and gastropub.
Inspired by the underground drinking dens of Prohibition-era America, Moonshine brings together craft cocktails, live music six nights a week, and a serious gastropub kitchen in a setting unlike anywhere else in Bang Tao. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 5:00 pm until late.
The Atmosphere
Dark walls, vintage brass fittings, leather banquettes, and low light that makes everything look a little more cinematic. Weekly Promotions: The Real Reason Locals Keep Coming Back. Every night at Moonshine has its own identity, its own entertainment, and its own reason to show up. Tuesday: Taco & Margarita Night with the Jayzee Band playing live Latin. Tacos from 100 to 220 THB net, margaritas from 300 to 330 THB net.
Wednesday: Hip Hop & R&B Night with unlimited chicken wings for just 600 THB++. All-you-can-eat while the DJ plays. It’s exactly as fun as it sounds.
Thursday: Ladies Drink Free All Night with Cole Ley & The Band. All ladies drink free from a menu including Margaritas, Hugo Spritz, and Lychee Martinis. No minimum spend, no time limit, no fine print. Moonshine’s most popular night by far.
Friday: Frankie Hong’s Trio brings swing and jazz standards to the stage. The frontman has earned the nickname the Eastern Frank Sinatra. Arrive early.
Saturday: The Chill Out Jazz Band for a smooth, soulful end to the week.
Sunday: Cole Ley & The Band close the weekend with warm, easy grooves.
Signature Cocktails & Food
Three cocktails define the bar: the Empire Fizz (light and effervescent), the Spicy Sunset(warm and sweet), and the Obsidian Negroni (dark, deep, built for slow sipping). Cocktails range from 350 to 450 THB++, alongside a full selection of classics, whiskies, wines, and beers. The kitchen runs a full à la carte menu with a strong Italian-American streak. Best sellers include the Grilled NY Strip Steak, Chicken Parmigiana, and Lobster Linguini, among a whole variety of Italian pastas.
