A Local Thai Restaurant in Phuket Town
Chuan Chim is one of those rare places in Phuket Town that keeps a low profile, but locals know it well. Tucked inside a small shophouse near the old centre, this family-run restaurant has been serving honest Thai food for decades. Itโs the kind of spot where they donโt try to impress with decorationโthe food speaks for itself. Despite its simple appearance, itโs earned a spot in the Michelin Guide, which is quite a surprise for first-time visitors.
We dropped by again recently for lunch and ordered a few favourites. The stir-fried kale with crispy pork was full of wok flavour, with just the right crunch on the meat. The seafood salad came with shrimp, squid, roasted cashew nuts, fresh lettuce, and plenty of lime and chilliโfresh, slightly spicy, and full of texture. But the dish that stood out most was their spicy stir-fried minced pork with basil. It was darker and more fragrant than usual, with lots of crispy edges and finely chopped herbs mixed in.
The kitchen is right in front, and you can see the chef working fast behind the counter, surrounded by pink and blue plates stacked high. Thereโs no air-con, and it can get busy during lunch, but the food is always worth it.
