A Good Local Thai Food Next to Karon Temple
Ya Restaurant is a small family-run place on the main road in Karon, right next to Karon Temple. It’s the kind of local spot you walk past a dozen times before finally stopping in. We tried it recently, and it was a nice, casual lunch break.
The Restaurant

The place is basic. Open shophouse style with wooden tables, red tablecloths, and fans instead of air-con. The kitchen is right there at the front, so you can watch the cooks working. A large photo cutout of the owners, a mother-daughter team in matching blue shirts, greets you at the entrance.
The Food

The menu covers all the Thai classics: Pad Thai, Tom Yum, Green Curry, Massaman, Pineapple Fried Rice, Cashew Chicken, and plenty more. Everything comes with English, Russian, and Chinese translations, which tells you who eats here. Prices are proper local rates. Pad Thai, Tom Yum Shrimp, and Duck Noodle Soup all go for 80 Baht. Mango Sticky Rice is 199 Baht.

We ordered the Pad Thai Hor Kai, the egg-wrapped version. It was good. Not the best we’ve had in Phuket, but solid and well-made for the price. The noodles had the right texture, and the egg wrap held together nicely.
Good to Know
They only take cash. No cards, no QR codes. There’s an ATM near the temple if you need it.
The location works well if you’re visiting the Karon Temple Market, which runs on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Have dinner at Ya, then walk over to browse the stalls. The temple is literally next door.
It’s not a destination restaurant. But if you’re in Karon looking for cheap, honest Thai food without the tourist markup, Ya is a good place to stop for a casual lunch or dinner.
