About Freedom Beach
Freedom Beach is a small, secluded beach on Phuket’s west coast, just south of Patong Beach. The beach is about 300 metres long, with fine white sand and some of the clearest water you will find on the island. It is surrounded by thick jungle on all sides, which keeps it feeling isolated.
Getting to Freedom Beach is part of the experience. You can either take a longtail boat from Patong, which takes about 10 minutes, or walk down a steep jungle path from the road above. The path is rough and slippery in places, so shoes with grip are a good idea. There is usually an entrance fee collected at the top of the trail.
Once you are down on the sand, the beach is quiet and beautiful. There are a couple of simple food stalls selling drinks and Thai dishes. Snorkelling is good near the rocks at both ends, with colourful fish and decent visibility during the high season.
Freedom Beach is best visited in the dry season when the sea is calm. During the monsoon months, boats may not run, and the water can be rough. For the full guide, see Freedom Beach.
