A Hidden but Busy Beachfront Restaurant
The HideOut Area is a small restaurant and hotel right on the sand at Tri Trang Beach, a little-known beach near Patong. It’s at the northern end of the beach, and unless someone tells you about it, you probably won’t find it. The signboard on Muen Ngern Road is easy to miss, and the road going down is steep enough to make you think twice on a scooter. Take it slow.

Getting There
From Patong, drive south past the Amari Resort and continue along the winding road for about 2.5 km. Watch for the Hideout signboard on the right. The access road drops sharply downhill for 250 metres. On a motorbike, go easy on the way down and be ready for the climb back up. There’s parking at the bottom.

Eating on the Sand
This is the only restaurant sitting directly on the beach at Tri Trang. Green canopy tents cover the picnic-style tables, and you eat with your feet in the sand. The menu is Thai and international, nothing fancy but it does the job. We had the pineapple fried rice, which came in a proper half-pineapple with cashews on top. Decent. Drinks are reasonably priced. The crowd is mostly expats who already know the place, which tells you something.

Free sunbeds come with your order, and there are showers and toilets you can use. The beach itself is shallow and rocky at low tide, so don’t expect great swimming. At high tide, it’s much better.

Can You Stay There?
The Hideout Beachfront is also a small hotel with just 7 rooms. Apartments come with balconies, kitchenettes, and access to a pool. It’s basic but affordable, and you’re right on the beach. A good option if you want to be near Patong without being in Patong.
