Ko Tee Sangkasi, listed in the Michelin Guide for Phuket, is a small restaurant on Yaowarat Road near Bangkok Hospital Phuket, on the outskirts of Phuket Town. Locals call this busy area โSamkongโ. The place has a redโbrown zinc roof, plastic chairs, and PepsiโCola table covers, as is often the case in local restaurants. Itโs always busy because the food is simple and really good. Thereโs no car park, so visitors leave their vehicles along the street. They only take cash, and the menu is mainly in Thai.
We arrived before noon to avoid the busy lunchtime queue. A helpful staff member recommended sour curry with young coconut shoots and fish. The dish was strong and spicy, and the fish came in big, fresh pieces. We shared saltโroasted pork, deepโfried pork belly that was crispy and just salty enough, and stirโfried morning glory with crispy pork. Each dish delivered the strong tastes of southern Thai cooking without being heavy. Another local speciality is โKaeng Bu,โ crab curry with betel leaves.
Meals cost around 150 baht per dish. The restaurant is open 9 a.m.โ8 p.m. (closed on Mondays). Service is swift and friendly, even during busy times. For travellers looking for authentic southern Thai food in an everyday setting, Ko Tee Sangkasi offers a true taste of Phuketโs culinary culture!
